Castiel has a deal with Crowley to find purgatory, and each of them get half the souls that reside within. Bobby, Dean, and Sam are working to find out how to stop them from opening the gates. Crowley abducts Lisa and Ben to get Dean and them to back off. Desperate, Sam and Dean summon Balthazar to see if he can locate them. He says he doesn't care, so they tell him what Castiel is doing, and he visits Castiel and asks him if what they say is true. After lying to him saying he's still on his side, he comes back to the Winchesters, and this scene is what happens next.
