What happens if find yourself in situation where you have to some pages in a different numbering scheme, say a technical document for example, you have to not count the first page, cover page, then executive summary has to be in roman figures for example, then you have a content/ bibliography page then you start counting using your ordinary numbers (1, 2, 3...) from your introduction and so on

I have page numbers on a document but for whatever reason, the page numbers start over in the middle of the document or they go something along the lines of "6, 4, 5, 6, 6" etc... From what I can find, it seems like the section breaks are somehow impacting this? I am not as proficient in Word as I thought I was.
