Guard mounting (Hellenic Parliament)

In the state capital, Athens, members of the elite Evzones light infantry unit, provide a 24-hour honor guard, with an hourly guard change, at the Presidential Mansion and at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, off Syntagma Square at the foot of the Hellenic Parliament. The changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in particular has become a tourist attraction, with many people marvelling at the guards, who stand motionless for two 20-minute intervals, during their 1 hour shifts.
Every Sunday at 11:00 a ceremonial change of guards takes place. A parade of Evzones and a military band starts from the camp of the Evzones (just behind the Parliament Building) and through Vasilissis Sofias Avenue, reaches the Tomb of the Unknown soldier where a ceremonial change of guards takes place. On this occasion all the three official uniforms of the Evzones can be seen. For the needs of the ceremonial change of guard, Vasilissis Sofias Avenue and Amalias Avenue are briefly closed to traffic from approximately 10:55 to 11:05 on Sunday mornings
The Evzones, or Evzoni, (Greek: Εύζωνες, Εύζωνοι) is the name of several historical elite light infantry and mountain units of the Greek Army. Today, it refers to the members of the Proedriki Froura (Presidential Guard), an elite ceremonial unit that guards the Greek Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (Άγνωστος Στρατιώτης), the Hellenic Parliament and the Presidential Mansion. The Evzones are also known, colloquially, as Tsoliades (Greek: Τσολιάδες; singular: Τσολιάς - Tsolias).
The unit is famous around the world for its unique traditional uniform, which has evolved from the clothes worn by the klephts[1] who fought the Ottoman (Turkish) occupation of Greece. The most visible item of this uniform is the fustanella, a kilt-like garment. Their proven valour and peculiar dress turned them into a popular image for the Greek soldier, especially among foreigners.
The name Evzone is first found in Homer, and derives from "εὖ"+"ζώνη", meaning the "well-girt" men, implying an elite status. As a word it has been used by ancient writers for centuries to describe a type of light infantry of unidentified equipment.

They are carrying out ceremonial duties and they are fully trained serving Soldiers.
I used to wonder why they do the high swinging arms and leg movements until I served alongside Greek Troops on Operations. Their Ceremonial Uniforms are Ancient in design and the rather odd Foot and Rifle drill movements is to ease the Guards arms and legs after being stood to attention for so long. Try standing stone still for hours and then do a star jump to feel the effect. Have a go at it, its great fun

@ktm066 Whatever u say won't change the fact that our Arvanitic culture is strongly influenced by the Greek simply cause we live in a place with an ancient civilisation like Greece..Our traditions are different the same that remains is our costumes and our music in some cases who are of Tosk Albanian origin but this doesn't make us Albanians again..Scotts are the Irish who migrated to Scottland and mixed with the Picts and the Calydonians there does this fact makes them Irish?? No they are Scots

@ktm066 Oh and the Arvanites started their immigration to Greece long before Turks invade Albania...The fact that we have been products of Greek fabrication gives us the right to call ourshelfs Greeks..Oh and the Foustanela is like Kilt is used by a lot of Ballkan nations who aren't related to Albanians even if it started to produced in Albania..Kilt was created in Ireland but Scotts are famous for it..Foustanela was widelly used not only by Arvanites but from all Greeks as well....

@ktm066 U trully luck Historic knowledge don't u? Of course we have common DNA with Albanians Turks and Slavs simply cause we all live in the same region and have the same climate as i said before DNA shows anthropoligical types not nations..And u should ask yourshelf Do we have the Turkish dna or do Turks have the same DNA with us? Historically Turks are only the 12% of Turkey's population simply cause the majirity are Islimised Greeks Iranians and Albanians..And i'm an Arvane myshelf...

We know that. Just like the British guards would not wear red and march like they do at Buckingham. That being said look at how ridiculous these guards look and march compared to the British or any other countries ceremonial guards. This Turkish ceremonial march needs to stop before they embarrass themselves further.

@ktm066 I never said we aren't of Illyrian origin i said we do not belong to Albanian nation for the reasons above if u can't understand simple things then stop this conversation..We always identified ourshelves as Romioi like the rest of the Greeks..U r no Arvanit u are Albanian so quit claiming Arvanitic history we are part of Greece now jesus is it this dificult to understand??

@ktm066 Well we do not have such a tradition as an Arvanit my grandad maryed a Sarakatsani woman which makes my mother half Arvanite half Sarakatsani..My Mother marryed a Maniot my Dad (some say Maniots are descendants of Spartans pure Greeks)..Arvanites are so mixed with the natives that we don't even know who is who..U live in a lie according to us we don't have such a tradition simply cause we followed the Greeks...
