Purple is used to represent supernatural things because the color itself is incredibly rare in nature. It’s also why it became associated with European royalty.

If she's been letting this guilt drive her for so long, I'm surprised that a looksie hasn't come for her yet.

Actually, purple is usually used as a way to indicate "the unknown" or "magical" you can blame disney for that, they almost always add either green, purple or both to their villans (especially the classical ones)

The Colony: "We must protect this world at EVERY COST! But how can we stop this door to be open!? Ideas?"
The guy in red: "Some locks that even a child can open... without guards?"
The Colony: "Ok, you are the boss now"

Purple is used in story telling to specifically represent corruption.
Dying or poisoned lands in a video game? Main color is purple.
Antagonist who was once on the side of good? Main color is purple.
Purple is used to symbolize good becoming bad. Fiery red added to calm blue. Evil corrupting good.

You know, if the point of "The Colony" is to keep the door short you'd think they'd post some guards to make sure no one busts it open. Or maybe use stronger reinforcement like metal bars or building a brick wall over it.

Both versions having former Disney stars as leads gave me some serious nostalgia.

"Our one only purpose is to prevent people from opening the door"
"So who is supervising it now"
"Why would we put someone to guard it? It's not like someone is going to open it"

To answer Matpat's burning questiin of "Why Purple is considered evil", for starter purple is very uncommon in nature, few animals and plants have it, which makes it quite the warning for animals looking to eat something in that color, iirc. Also in popular media, since purple is the mix of Blue and Red, Blue being related to calm, intelligence and rationality while Red is associated to anger, madness or power, it sort of makes this a mix of "Intelligent/Rational Anger/Power" which is what villains are at its core, a rational power hungry individual.

Honestly, it would be fun if you made a FilmXGame Theory of how modern media (Videogames and Movies) have made us see the color purple and with what we associate it!

9:54 Rayman's colours were changed depending on the region for this reason, supposedly. Purple in some cultures is seen as a sinister colour, and is associated largely with antagonists or the like. So apparently in order to prevent misconception or something, they switched around the colours. (I can't quite remember where I heard this, but it always stuck with me for some reason.)

Honestly I would absolutely love if matpat made a horror theory account just full of games shows and all sorts of horror theories called “ fear theory “

If you've just opened an ancient portal to a demonic dimension all you need to do is call the Doom Slayer to clean up the mess!

Another possible explanation for why purple is considered an "Evil" color is because there are many poisonous plants that are purple in color: Aconitum napellus ("Monkshood, " "Wolfsbane"), Atropa belladonna ("Deadly Nightshade"), Delphinium ("Larkspur"), and so on. In Pokemon, the color purple is associated with Poison-based Pokemon, which alongside Ghost and Dark type, are considered some of the edgier, more malicious Pokemon. Because Poison is about whittling down your rivals' Pokemon's health, making them suffer in pain until they pass out (or die).

It’s cooler to slowly discover the village is actually a colony dedicated to fighting the monsters than to just straight up be told in the trailer. I feel like the stakes are too clearly laid out from the beginning, cheapening the mysterious plot.

you'd think they'd just board up the door and build a nice steel shed around it then post warnings and/or spread folklore to keep people away from

Instead of MCU I'd go with CCU (Crypt Connected Universe).

Not only is it less confusing, it avoids treading the line of getting sued by Disney.

"Do NOT open the door."
Yeah I know, Markiplier and Lixian already showed me why not to.

In mythos and Pagan belief, purple represents magick (with a k to differentiate it from "magic" which has negative connections to parlor tricks and charlatans).

A being with purple eyes, purple stones, purple glowing auras etc are all nods to strong magick from the Spirit World.
