usually a whine mean,
pioneer deck : a resistor has blown and will require that the rca outer shield be grounded directly to the cars chassis! and not the stock grown that goes to your harness

any other name brand, is usually because someone installed the power wire along with the rca paralleled to each other causing cross talk

IF you need to do this, Then that mean's you're headunit has a blown earth track.

It is an easy fix if you are good with soldering and electronics.

Although, This is a temp fix, But better to open it up and fix it right.

When instaling external amplifiers, Always make sure you connect the ground wire first.
If not, The amplifier will try and ground thrugh the RCA's and blow the headunit's earth track.
Very common for pioneer unit's.

say you have 2 or 4 rca outputs (Front left/right rear left/right)
Do you have to ground all outputs of just one? I'm going to try this on the weekend but i wasn't sure. The help is appreciated.

late response but I just got a new JVC aftermarket radio and installed it. I don't have my door speakers or tweeters hooked up to an external amplifier, just the deck. I got it all wired and when I fired the car up, as soon as the radio starts, a loud static/screeching sound plays through my mids and tweets. The tweeters get no music just static, the mids get music and static. I am curious if I should cut the car harness's factory ground wire that is running to the headunit and run a NEW & seperate wire from the headunit to the amplifer's ground? Or should I keep the cars factory harness's ground wire and run a secondary ground wire from the chassis of the headunit to the amplifer? Another question is should i use the radios harness black wire (the ground) to run a new wire to a new ground location or should I just connect it to the radio's chassis and run it to a new ground location? Hard to explain but sounds like I'm riding inside a UFO.

why radios have ground straps that bolts to the back of the them and goes to the chasis ground to prevent interference like that.

will there be a problem if I just leave this as is? I'm getting the same whine sound when you pressed the accelerator but it's quire random. only happened about 6x in the last 4 months after I installed a new android head unit. The times the sound happened was from a cold start then went away after 10-15min driving.

I read on another site, take HU ground wire, ground it to the HU chassis, then from that same grounding pt, connect to the grounding pt / wire of your amp..  to eliminate the engine noise..   I didn't do this for my custom truck install and I have no issues, but my boat whines badly with the addition of my amp and tower speakers.  Talk about frustrating.. didn't realize it into boat was in the water.. didn't think to check it at the house.. of course the gain on the amp needs to be turned down but the whine is always there.. ran 6 gauge wires for power and ground from amp to battery but now I will use same for the Sony HU.

Can't believe they don't make the radio with the RCAs already grounded.
