A sushi place is definitely a strange choice. I would go with a steakhouse or a grill, or a dango place in they're using hinoa and minoto for the characters, although I guess there aren't that many dango chains.

Once again, liquid smoke is not 'fake smoke'. It's literally concentrated smoke made using a smoker and a condenser lid. Smoke goes up the smoker's chimney, hits and flow out and around topper that is kept very cold. The water vapor in the smoke condenses and as it does it absorbs the smoke particles. It then slides down to a collector ring to stored and later drained into bottles.

The reason you taste chemicals is because that's what smoke _is, _ a collage of different chemicals released or created during the burning process.
