The Folk Singer TOMMY ROE

My favourite Tommy Roe song, and a UK #4 from 1963. It was written by Merle Kilgore, who also had a hand in writing "Ring of Fire" with June Carter (Johnny Cash's wife) and another of my favourite Country songs, "Wolverton Mountain". (Must post that sometime!)

Like so many others, I've always loved this recording. I still have the original 45rpm single. As a lad, I always had it in mind that the song was about Johnny Cash but that's was probably because I was (and still am) a big fan of JC's music, so the two things got mixed up in my mind. As an example of a narrative song, it's almost perfect.

Does anyone know when Tommy re-recorded this version of his classic hit ? As i have heard the original version & it doesn't sound like this.
