White Settlement Police Are Introducing A New Tracking Dart

White Settlement Police are introducing a new tracking dart that could change how they handle high-speed chases. Officers can launch this dart from their patrol cars, which sticks to the back of a suspect's vehicle, allowing them to follow the car using GPS instead of engaging in a high-speed chase.

Chief Christopher Cook says, police chases are probably one of the most dangerous activities that a law enforcement officer gets involved in. They're very unpredictable.

This new technology from StarChase company aims to reduce the risk of crashes that sometimes occur during high-speed chases. By allowing officers to pull back, they hope suspects will slow down. Each device costs $20,000, and White Settlement is buying more than a dozen. The chief considers this an important investment in the safety of the public, suspects, and officers, though they will still pursue arrests.

Once widely used the driver will consider this is something the police officer did and can just pull over, pull the device off and throw it into the bed of a truck.

I am in support of ideas like this for many reasons, because I don't think high speed chasing is safe either.

Cops can't play road chase games with a suspect, without putting innocent lives in extreme danger, so I am in favor of alternative techniques that don't add to the risk to others.

Then that was a stolen car and the suspect go to another car, destroys the tagged one and flees without police officers around

They will still recklessly chase the car. Those $20, 000 pop cans won't change anything.

What a waste of money

White settlement is a small town.

The cop likely knows the suspect- can pick him up at the next family reunion.

Where do you small town cops get in to a high speed chase at? Sounds like a waste of tax payers money.

And cops LOVE them. they have qualified immunity and don't have to give you their dashcam as they will 'oops it got deleted' it.
