This is my favorite version of this song, Steve’s voice is just perfect for telling a story in a song

Love Steve! Love this song. Love all his songs. Cant sit still when I'm listening to some Earle! And DAMN!, he sure was a honey when he was younger! What a voice. What a song writer.

What a brilliant song, one of his many. I've loved his music since I first heard Copperhead Road in about 1988

Steve Earle can be so intense it's almost scary. What a great performer and songwriter.

I saw him in the late 90s, and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Great performer as well as a song writer

So ridiculously underrated. He is the country Bruce Springsteen.

Fun fact. Steve wrote this song for Waylon Jennings. Waylon then recorded it with Willie Nelson Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson ( AKA The Highway Men ) Steve then recorded it for himself then Johnny Cash recorded it

Such a good songwriter, performer and even good-looking in his prime. (No offense. I'm over 60 now, too.)

Used to think I didn't like country. Turned out I just didn't like Tammy Wynette or Loretta Lynne much. Then I heard Steve Earle for 2 hours on the radio one night and it led me into a great new genre of music.

This song was written in 1862 by Johnathan Bolger from Louisiana. It's a classic.
