To be fair Tony was wrong because he literally had no conceptual understanding of how powerful the stone is. Strange should’ve just done the dormamu time loop trick again. Thanos would be stuck in a tiny glass box with all the power in the universe at his disposal but no freedom. Sorta like a genie. If strange didn’t listen to stark and just time looped them off the rip to negotiate he would’ve won. Even if thanos went back on his word (he wouldn’t because he’s not a liar) time still beats the other stones he has

That's not why Strange hid the stone. He hid the time stone because it was part of the one timeline that had them defeating Thanos.
