Knew a guy who was fluent in ASL and because I wanted to learn, I'd learn a phrase or word and when I saw him, I'd sign to see if what I was signing was correct.

I saw him from across the room one day and signed "I'm tired." confidently.
His eyes grew big and he rushed over. "What are you saying?" So I signed again. "I'm. Tired."
Nope.
Teen aged me signed "I'm pregnant."

My ASL teacher in high school told a story about dating a hearing boy in high school. He was learning sign, and accidentally told her she looked "easy" instead of "nice" on their first date 😂

I worked at a summer camp where one of the counselors was deaf and we all learned some basic sign language. He also gave people sign names. One girl was an entomologist so her name was in sign language was “bug girl.” I probably called her “Orgasm girl” without even knowing. Our deaf friend had a wicked sense of humor and I bet he knew we would mess it up sometimes.😂
