GR Yaris - MEGA Hatch

Whilst I was hooning my newly-finished Lancia Delta Integrale around Pembrey Circuit recently, I was given the chance to test out what is arguably the modern-day equivalent of my car: the mighty Toyota GR Yaris.

The GR Yaris is undoubtedly the perfect antidote to the current car world that's full of driver aids and lack of excitement. But how much fun do I have with it on this high-speed race track?

Modern classic. Many manufacturers don't have the balls to make a car like the GR Yaris anymore.

Never stop making these videos.
The world needs more Ben Collins and Chris Harris.

As a grateful gen1 GR owner, I can't help watching this review daily 😊.

Without Akio Toyoda taking the helm and going all in with the LFA, the Gazoo Racing wouldn't have appeared. Look at what we have now. Beauts

Brilliant little motor, only had it for prob 4 months and already, lowered the seats, Alcantara steering wheel, ITG panel filter, AST coilovers, spacers and now an additional rear spoiler. I'm happy with the power though. Thanks, Toyota, for building this little Hyper Hatch, Deffo my last car at aged 61 ❤

Had mine for almost 2 years, and I love it, and am planning on keeping it long term. Always brings a smile to my face, and I think with a few mods it looks and sounds awesome too.

I must say I felt a bit of extra pride in owning one after hearing all this praise from Ben Collins himself! Cheers from Norway.

Great video. I’m fortunate to own a GR despite always wanting an Integrale, but out of my price range.
The GR Gen 1 is a keeper for me, and the true homologation version. Thanks Toyota 👍🏻

Got one. Love it and what's an added benefit it can be the family 'shopping trolley' giving you another car in the stable, without using up all of your sports car points. So you can have a second sports car as well ! I've got a 600hp/tonne '7' and in all honesty, unsighted point to point back road the GR would walk away from it. The sheer confidence inspiring grip level is just off the charts.

I own a number of iconic homologated rally and rally raid vehicles but the GR Yaris is currently #1 on my desire list. Trouble is, I live in the United States so this is forbidden fruit for us. I already own a GR Corolla but it's just not the same. It does not have the same reason for existence behind it. That car was never designed an engineered to go win the World Rally Championship like the GR Yaris. So how do I solve my dilemma? I'm moving to Europe. I'm currently in the process of gaining Italian citizenship just so I can have this car in my life. THAT is how bad I desire to own one of these. I'm willing to change countries!

There are many great YT videos out there covering the brilliance of the GR Yaris but I think Ben has just created the best offering. He really captures just why this tool is so adept at the job. There is another YT video out there covering this car and in the comments a Porsche GT3 owner commented on the GR Yaris in a disparaging way. But in the video, the GR Yaris was just one second off the lap time of the Porsche GT3. 1 SECOND! The GR Yaris is just a remarkable piece of engineering from one of the last manufacturers you would think would create it. A truly special moment in automotive history. Those of you lucky enough to have access to one of these, you need to take advantage of it as this truly maybe the last time a piston driven car such as this will be released to the public.

Great job Ben and your team!

I'm trying to convince my wife to buy one. I've tried to explain to her that it will take her from being a 7 to a 9 😂😂

I've had my GR Corolla (US) for just under a year, and I can say without a doubt, this is one of the best cars I've ever owned and driven.

Describing it as a pocket rocket is 100% spot on. It very much is a 'point and go' car - pairing this much power with incredible grip is a wonderful recipe.

The few items that I wish were different is the availability of colors (I wanted to get a grey one, but it wasn't offered on anything except the Circuit Edition - and I have the Premium Edition), braided steel clutch and brake lines, and the front dash speakers that used standard mounting hole spacing.

I have not taken it to a track, so I cannot speak of its behaviors in that arena, but I have enjoyed it a fair amount on backroads, and it is an absolute riot to drive. :) It will go as fast as you are willing to push, and likely can handle more than we mortals are comfortable with (there is only 1 Ben Collins and sadly I am not a WRC driver).

Endless thanks to Akio Toyoda for pushing to get this car made.

Year by year it's acquiring rally royalty status. Just like the Lancia did. What a beautiful little car.

The GR Yaris is my all time favourite car, got mine to 360 bhp, then reached 45000 miles and decided to sell and let somebody else love it.. Got a GR Supra or "BMW Supra" as replacement :D, love em both.
