I watched the terrible Emoji Movie two years ago. It always seems to come back to me each Christmas time. And even after all this time, I still can't stop thinking about it. Not because of the awful story, bad characters or malicious representation of disabled people but... there's this one scene that could actually be construed as.. good? Or at least, the idea the scene is sat upon is something that blew my mind when I saw it, yet seems so ironically trapped and buried underneath one of the worst animated movies of our time. This is the scene I can't get out of my head. This is the scene that CHANGED The Emoji Movie...

... I will say this once again. I can't believe this is in the Emoji Movie! Of the short-lived phase of mobile app inspired movies, I am shocked that my favorite adaptation of an app comes with this interpretation of Instagram in this movie. I just can't believe this is in the Emoji Movie-

Alright, i'll be honest here, i think this movie HAD potential to be good. The problem with it is that it decided to rely on unfunny puns and childish jokes to be funny.

The director actually said he wanted the movie to reflect his journey as a gay man, so that probably was intended to be a coming-out scene. Such a shame it couldn't have been in a better movie.

How to make this scene better: make the main character Alex. He gets transported into the phone and going on an adventure in the phone. He's the one who gets to this app and he remembers it. His companion (can still be an emoji or something else related to a phone) tells him to go in. He does and gets to see not just what he remembers but also the things he might not have noticed before like the guy proposing in the background.

I remember seeing the emoji movie opening weekend in an empty theatre. The one thing I took away from the whole movie, and the one thing I completely remember is this scene. It didn't move me to tears, but wow was it an amazing scene when juxtaposed with everything else around it.
I remember leaving the theatre and reviewing it on my snapchat by saying that the entire movie should have been about the parents because this was the best scene. I still think this. We need a prequel.
