Your standard answer is spot on! Use whatever organic matter you have and more of it.

my gardens soil was rock hard clay ... for the last 20 years I have been loading it up with leaves in the fall and roto tilling them into the clay in the spring time . This year i piled up the leaves 18 inches deep and in the spring time I plan to just dig the needed holes to plant in and let everything else stay in place to help keep the oe weeds from growing

Thank you I needed to hear this, I have an abundance of pine needles on my property and I was wary to use them as compost

Kudos on the studying !! Don’t know your age but I’m 61 and I’ve been gardening since I was 4 and come from a long line of’em . You can’t go wing from reading or listening to the right people those who think outside the traditional chemical / industrial Ag . I modify my approach almost every year and currently on a no till / Jadam type of approach with great results . Currently I have a 24 x 50 foot block with 250 pepper plants that was never till even at the beginning. I tarped it for 6 months marked off my beds broad forked them once and planted straight into it.
The results are fantastic. Because of the cold I got a late start this year mid may zone 7b my banana peppers has a 60 day maturity date that would be mid July I’m already harvesting peppers. To sum this up this has come through a life time of reading, studying, and talking with people who don’t believe modern industrial Ag is the answer. Great video keep up the good gardening and study 👍👍📖📖

even pine needles don't hurt the soil /change its PH once dry.
nature's got its matters covered... billions of years of perfection 🙈

I accidentally tossed a clump of fairly fresh chicken manure on one of my tomatoes that was up about two feet. It was twice as big as the other tomato plants and loaded with green tomatoes in a few weeks. It wasn't tilled in and I know it would've been bad if it was.
