Shaq wasn’t scary. He was powerful, and with the officiating at the time, unstoppable, but he was predictable, so he wasn’t scary. I would argue that someone like Ron Artest or Dennis Rodman was actually scarier.

The only reason that they had to change the backboard with Shaq is that he was the only one idiot enough to actually try to pull them down intentionally.

Shaq played against 35 7-footers - scattered on 30 teams.

Shaq had one move. Travel —> Charge —> Travel —> Dunk. His footwork was terrible. He didn’t have a real shot. The NBA adjusted the way the game was officiated to accommodate Shaq’s style to let him dominate.

Wilt was more dominant than Shaq. Wilt played against 15 7-footers on only 8-9 teams during his play. Almost half his games were played against future HoFers. Wilt couldn’t just push his way to the basket to dunk because of the way the game was officiated at the time. Yet, he still dominated his era.
