The iconic Ford 7000 // the fierce four cylinder TURBO (!)

In 1971 an icon was born!

Ford Motor Company launched the Ford 7000 tractor and soon this machine became a legend in its own life time with unheard of power from its four cylinder engine - made possible by the fitting of a turbocharger.
With its tall air intake stem and bowl, this tractor soon gained itself a strong following amongst farmers, contractors and drivers as the ultimate in tractor power!

The 5000 tractor first appeared in 1964 and then the arrival of the Ford Force 5000 in 1968. With 75hp, the new 5000 was still not big enough for some people and so conversion builders began to use six cylinder engines in the 5000 to get that extra power.
Then at the Royal Smithfield Show in 1971, the answer to many farmers needs arrived in the shape of the 94hp 7000.

I think at least some of the reason to why the 7000 became so popular is that it was basicly one of the first "compact" tractors with good power. and very fair priced at the same time. Both Deutz and IH had similar powered tractors, but they were larger. Deere had the 3130, but it was down on torque compared to the 7000. Also, the 7000 was fairly fuel efficient, probably only beaten by the Deutz.
The 5000 never really impressed me compared to other tractors of the same size and years. There both Deutz, Fiat and IH was just as good if not better, but that 5000 engine turned out to respond very well to turbocharging, making it a serius contender.

0:14: I love this sweet whistle from the turbo. And that is NOT a Pente Na Turbina as I thought at first.

Dad had a 1966 4000 3 cyl split grille, it was a good old tractor. I'm sure the 7000 was too but to compete against the JD 4020 (one of the most iconic tractors of all time) and then the 4230/4240 was a pretty tall order, at least in the US.
Cool video!

Great Tractor, First Mass Produced Turbo Tractor, It was Popular Because of its Power to Weight and Power For Price, I Have Driven a Few Ford Tractors and Used a 7610 a Lot Which has Improved Engine over the 7000.
They had Great Flexability and Pulled from Tickover with a 7 Ton Trailer No Problem in High Range, Also the Other Great Feature of Ford Tractors Was Duel Power Being able to Shift under Load with out the clutch to get you out of Troulble.

Wouldn’t be pulling a 6 bottom here in the states with a 7000.

I am not a farmer of any sort, so apologise for any unintended offence, but what does this tractor not do that the behemoths of today do?
