What did everyone think of "Third from the Sun"?

Rod Serling was really onto something special when he made Twilight Zone. The original show still has relevance today, even though it came out in the late 50s and early 60s

The opening Sterling narration:
For this is the end.

I really liked the twist that they were not escaping from Earth, but rather TO Earth. I personally am tired of all the stories of mankind destroying themselves. Yes, many of them are very good and I enjoy quite a few, yes they are good to transmit a message to protect our future, but they have been done many times that is boring now, and kinda preachy too, not to mention its an easy plot to take advantage off, which can easily make the story come out as lazy.

I like that here they choose a different path (even if it is just at the twist), makes the story a lot mroe original to me, and a lot more refreshing.

Great episode.

I always thought the twist was bittersweet. The world the main characters come from was a reflection of the Cold War in the 50’s and definitely a reference to McCarthyism. I interpreted the ending that they were headed to “modern day” Earth, where everything was also on the brink of destruction. An “out of the frying pan, into the fire” sort of interpretation.

This might be my favorite Twilight Zone episode of all time. It’s just totally perfect, and I love the creepy “off” vibe that pervades every moment.

Can’t wait for them to talk about “to serve man”

This is an episode I really would have loved to see a follow-up on. Did other people from their planet manage to escape? How do they blend in/adapt to life on Earth? Could they use their planet's technology to change the planet for the better? Several unanswered questions from this premise that had potential for a sequel.

They’re sure lucky no one else thought of getting that spaceship and leaving

I caught That 70's Show circle reference one second before you made it. 😂 I hope this episode serves as a reminder that we don't have a spare Earth to escape to so we need to take care of the one we have.

The whole time I thought it was Cold war era Earth, they got the paranoia down great in this episode.

Each day brings us closer to him talking about my favorite episode. The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street.

This twist got me even though I knew what the title was! That is what makes a great Twilight Zone episode.

I had a soft spot for this episode, loved the twist when I first watched it.
And I'm also thrilled to hear that you love "The Obsolete Man" —that one is fantastic!

Last time going into space was bad, now it's life-saving!
The "mystery planet" being Earth would be used several times but not as effective as here.

I love how even the title suggests the twist of the episode.

What's interesting is the sculpture at 3:07 is a Japanese haniwa - a clay figure from the Kofun Era (250-600s) - and the next shot shows a shamisen on the wall.
