Welcome to the first installment in our series “Over the Borderline” where we examine the plight of immigrant families, the socioeconomic and political conditions that drive people to migrate to the United States and the current crisis that has become a central talking point in the 2024 election. This first episode is a spotlight on New York City, which has been overwhelmed by a surge in migrant families being bused from border states as part of a political maneuver to deposit the immigration issue at the feet of leaders in Blue States. After a brief summary and update of how the situation has changed over the past two years, we speak with Marlene Galaz, Director of Immigrant Rights Policy at the New York Immigration Coalition.

39:50 what I don't understand about these activist is when is enough enough and why is this a nyc tax payer problem when immigration is a federal issue. Also thank you host for debunking the commercial property myth.

Very informative episode. Recruiting Marlene Galaz as your guest was a great coup. I particularly appreciate your allowing her to speak without interruption, which most hosts find difficult to do.

I worked with a nurse who was from India. It was really interesting to hear her opinion on all these people coming across the border. She openly stated...."my family had to follow the process that the USA had set, we came here legally. I don't want automatic citizenship just given to people, they need to go the course !". It was eye opening to hear her say that.

Knock it off this is an absolute disaster and there are good immigrants everywhere but the problem is is that the 1% is going to cause chaos and is already damaging this country we cannot afford to be the homeless shelter to everyone

Being concerned about their dietary preferences when tax payers are paying the bill is the height of insanity.

Where was the set policies (and services) to HANDLE housing, food, medical, PRIOR TO THE ILLEGALS COMING INTO THIS
COUNTRY Why ....why was this not all worked out a year before the border was opened ? The Federal Government should have already spoken to the sanctuary cities to prepare them for the huge influx of people and worked out how it would be paid for!! The incompetence is massive. And of course it's the taxpayers that get to pay which is crap.

The most relatable and easily communicated example of "falling out of status" is, for example, inability to obtain CAR insurance, or an AUTO loan, or outsized consequences of an AUTO accident... Huh! 🤔 <Read with acute sense of irony>. Perhaps expand on why that's a problem, and how it came to be so, since it's such a handy and relatable example...
