Purpose of Class
This class teaches students why they should set up a separate Computer Lab network on their home network if they will be creating test servers and networks. It also explains the basic concepts such as; Port Forwarding to Multiple Layers of Routers, the Need for Different IP Subnets on the Same LAN, and that Conflicting Server Services can cause odd problems.

Class Notes
Reasons for a Separate Computer Lab Network-- DNS and DHCP issues, performance problems
Lab Network must be on a different IP Network then other LAN Networks. 192.168.1.x, 192.168.2.x, 192.168.3.x
For access to servers form outside world port forwarding on your ISP Router must be pointed at the Router for your Lab Network
Any $60 Linksys Router can be used to create a lab network.
Lab Network Router External Interface needs to be configured to be on the same network as the ISP Router's Internal Interfaces.

You may be the best, but you are still the best inspiration for me to move forward to learn new networking. I am on my way to CCNA and you made a spark that became an idea to get into networking. Thanks for all

Just started getting into Networking, and it's pretty daunting for someone like me who has virtually no real background with computers let alone the networks they talk to each other through.

But of all the lessons I've dug through on Youtube, Eli, you are hands down the best at explaining these sorts of things in an approachable manner. Thank you for putting these up for everyone, and thanks for giving me the confidence to shoot for certification(s).

Hey, I just wanted to thank you for all your intro videos in windows server, linux, etc in helping me secure my first job as an IT support technician. After watching a bunch of your introduction videos, i was able to confidently go into my first job interview, and nail all the question they asked me relating to IT.
I start Jan 30th, and I can't thank you enough for your easy to follow video playlist that i can just let run while i was working at my old job, and be able to learn so much.
Thanks!!!

After I finished my introductory course to IT back in 2010 I didn't find work immediately, which resulted in me forget quite a bit. Your course were a huge help. Coming back here after so many years just to say thank you. I've been out of work for a while now due to COVID and because I have no equipment I need a quick revision. Now with advance IT skills I can see why your course was such a help. Thank you so much Eli.

Connect the port to a switch and then connect one of the ports on the switch to your Lab Router. Connect all of your home PCs to the switch... Connect all of your lab systems to the internal port of the Lab Router...

Ive been looking into routers and switches and networking in general, checking out many videos over the past couple of days. Its nice to come across this video that explains about the physical network in a way that's informative and easy to understand. Great whiteboard section showing exactly what i need to do.

I found an old RV-042 in my employers broom-closet/boiler-room/.... "server" room... I brought it home to use as my home lab router. this was the first video I found and was blown away
that you were using the same one in your tutorial.... and almost strange that it even had custom labels of the exact same size and placement on the top...

Your videos have been incredibly helpful for helping me start my homelab! While I've only been tinkering with Win Server 2012, this video has enabled me to start messing with DNS, AD, and DHCP.

I wonder who would give this guy a thumbs down? I would like to see your video. I really don't think anybody can explain networking as well as Eli. Thumbs up from me man. I studied networking Technology in 2005 and am using your videos to remember all this stuff and I am so grateful to have found your channel!
