Verda Byrd considers herself African-American, even though she was actually born white. But the mere mention of Rachel Dolezal sets her off. Byrd says the difference between them is she didn't know her racial heritage for 70 years.

It’s not ironic that the father walked out right after she was born... She might not be completely white but she’s definitely mixed. Her features tell it all

That's amazing, if she look in the mirror for 70 years and didn't realize that she was white is because she does not look white .well the way I see it she look biracial, something don't add up.

I've not seen a single native European looking like her, and I lived in Europe my entire life.

She's obviously biracial. Her mother had a child with a black man. Her mother's husband is listed as her father because it is legally assumed that a woman's husband is the father of all children that she bares during their marriage. Too bad it's not always an accurate assumption.

She might be her biological mom's, but that white guy is not her bio dad. Back in that time she was probably put up for adoption because she IS mixed. Her mother likely had to put her up for adoption to defend her own "honor", because not only would it make her look bad to cheat on her husband but if anyone found out she slept with a black man it'd probably be the end of her life being accepted by the people she knew. It sucks that things were like that back then, but that's just how things were in those times. This woman is not 100% white.

When she was born her Mom and her husband were White, so they wrote White on the birth certificate. Apparently the husband wasn't the father and when the baby started to look mixed race, he split. Then her Mom had the accident and lost custody of all the kids. When she was better she went back for the other kids, but not her. I looked up her story, I've seen the family photos, she absolutely landed on her feet as the saying goes with the family she grew up with. God bless her adoptive parents.

Her biological parents not telling the truth!

Ummm...Ms. Verda is Black. Which is probably the real reason she was given up for adoption initially. Or the real reason daddy really left home. I hv aunts that look resemble her and they're BLACK.

She resembles the adoptive parents more than she does the listed biological "parent(s)".
