This is just as much of a picking technique as it is a lick.

Thanks for watching. Cheers

I've said it before, but want to reiterate- your lessons are GREAT! I could never get this stuff, but you make it much easier. Thanks so much!

Probably the best explanations on the net. Slow, clear and easy to understand.
Brilliant.

Now let's go to work

Thanks for sharing. I can nail 75% of the speed after 30 minutes of playing again and again. Your chop is insane!

Thanks for this. Been playing 20 years, but I'm having a technical overhaul, and this helps get me started on the road of alternate picking.

the lick and the tone are just dead on.

Very nicely presented. I found especially valuable the section about how the lick can float over the tempo a bit as long as it resolves at the right time ... wish more instructors would include tempo/counting information in their tutorials. Thanks a heap!

probably the most helpful video ive seen on these type licks. i would say everyone should start with the picked version first. great for warming up too

A technique I use for this type of lick is to hit the sixth note with my right hand middle finger. This opens up a whole new world of backpicking. Try it! Great lesson. Thanks.

Spot on!  Thanks for breaking this down for us mere mortals to woodshed!

The most concise, best lesson of this style yet. Thank You!

I took me three years to do this cleanly and effortlessly at 100bpm, and I picked up tendinitis along the way. I practice at least 2 hours daily. Goddamn Johnson's stuff is hard. Great lesson, especially when looking back years later.

you've nailed that style mate, love the end lmprov. I sometimes think learning the lick is the easier part of the process and knowing where to use it is the harder part. You show where this type of lick/playing style can be used perfectly. This will be my homework for the next few weeks:)

Your video lesson is a heavensend! Stupendous explanation and technique.
Cannot find enough licks express to gratitude for this lesson. Am moved by the effort!

36 people didn't like this? I can understand some peeps aren't interested, but to actually dislike it? WTF??

Anyway, love your stuff, like your style and like others have said, if you were my neighbour, I'd be a happy guy :) Keep up the good work.

Awesome lesson. Quality is so professional. I really appreciate it. It's my "go to" practice lick every time I pick up the guitar now. Each time I feel like I finally have it down, I watch the video and realize I'm not as smooth as you. Lol! Subscribed.

Great lick AND lesson. Like the way you blended in those sweet sounding Eric Johnson notes after you demonstrated the initial lick. Great vibrato also!

Thanks for showing this. It made more sense once you went through it then others who've tried to demonstrate the technical side.

This is wicked awesome! My ear told me Eric Johnson was doing something like this, but I couldn't make my ear and my fingers connect. Thanks so much for providing the "missing link." Very straightforward and easy to follow, plus great explanation or variations--other positions, and hammer-ons/pull-offs. Will definitely take some time to master, but worth it! Now going to look for more!
