**WE HAVE MOVED!**

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you want higher performance, getting that performance is often not as simple as just buying a more expensive NAS. Some NAS will perform very well in one use case and poorly in another. And the way you configure your NAS will greatly affect what use case it performs well in. This webinar will go into how you can choose the right NAS and optimal configuration for best performance in a particular use case.

Great video. Really detailed and really useful.

Agreed, very useful 👍 This has helped to give me a much needed "perspective" adjustment on hardware selection for our next nas but first QNAP NAS.

This is all really helpful. After watching this video it definitely helped limit down my options for what I need.

I work in motion graphics animation/video editing
I have a need for large file storage and fast read/write speeds. But I now can't decide between the TVS-672XT and the TS-677.

The TS-677 seems to have a faster CPU but lacks a GPU and 10Gbpe. I like that the TVS-672XT has Thunderbolt 3 (as a Mac user), but honestly I've watched so many reviews of x72XT series and it always seems the 10Gbpe is faster than the Thunderbolt 3.

So what it comes down to is, are you able to install a decent graphics card in the TS-677 and also a QM2 Expansion card that would allow for 10Gbpe and/or additional NVMe SSD caching. Mostly I can't figure out if both would fit inside the device. From what I understand, there are certain (but limited) GPUs that allow for Hardware Transcoding in the TS-677, but I don't know which slot it would need to be installed in, and if it affects the other slots.

Thanks..

I have a faithful TS-870 (since 2013) and seeking to replace it since it's 10 GbE QNAP card keeps crashing everytime I connect it to a 10 GbE Netgear switch.

What do you recommend? I use it a lot for file services and video editing (HD and 4K) to 10 GbE is imporant and also speed/capacity.

My PCs all have 10 GbE RJ45 conectivity so no SFP+ please.

Some of these NAS kind of look like coffeemakers

Objet:

1) Can you confirm my reasoning?

2) SSD for plex, is it better cached or static raid 1 with QTS installed? have you burned your SDD cache?

3) if I have to add memory?

5) With the SSD There is a big difference to stranscoder a film 4k, I did not do the test, But I'm septic?

Hello,
January 2019 I bought a QNAP TVS-672XT with 2 hard drives HDD 7200tr / min of 6 to raid and 1 disk of 10To.
Here are the details of my configuration FOR PLEX 80% and 20% edit video:

Actual configuration:
-2x Toshiba N300 6TB Hard Drives (raid 1)
-1x Toshiba 10TB Hard Drive (raid 0)
-Memory of origin 8GO (2x4GO)

Future configuration (expected in 3 days):
**-4x 6TB Toshiba N300 hard drives (raid 5)**
-1x Toshiba 10TB Hard Drive (raid 0)
-Memory of origin 8GO (2x4GO)
**-2x Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus M.2 PCIe NVMe 1TB**

I'd like to have your opinion?

1) After having looked at the Youtube and the internet for a long time, I will go for a raid 5
The system raid 5 allows a reading much faster than a raid 1

2) I ask your advises, because I do not know if I have to use the 2 SSD M.2 (2x Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus M.2 PCIe NVMe 1TB)
For Caching or would it be better to put static in Raid 1 and install QTS and plex on it.

Would the stock nvme heatsinks from qnap be suffice or should I upgrade to these after market ones: 2 Pack M.2 NVMe Aluminum Heatsinks Cooler with Nano Silicone Thermal Pad

Because the problem is that the SSD cache is fast but it grieves quickly. I had experience on my synology rack. they all burned.

3) if I have to add memory ? or if I can stay on the original memory 8GO (2x4GO)?

Thank You
