We have had them in the UK for decades, derooy drivers are well used to them😂 even have them for small sprinter size vans. Lots of the eastern european outfits use them.

Here in Germany I've seen double cabs (some may refer to those as crew cabs) with rooftop sleeper boxes

Those have been around in the EU for ages by now. Either on small box trucks, or the trucks made for volume transport, allowing them to have more loading space without getting any longer than allowed.
