I'm what I consider myself to be an urban survivor trekking down city sidewalks and down the walking and biking and hiking trails of all the beautiful parks in my area. Where I live there are many huge corporations and home offices of the largest retailers in the country including Walmart and Coca-Cola and many, many others. They have put a lot of money into the parks here. I am addicted to the outdoors I can't wait to just get out there and find new trails and visit new parks. They are adding new trails all of the time. I have also had sort of a rough time while bouncing around trying to keep my feet planted somewhere having to sleep in my vehicle and in tents and spending most of my time outside. I can tell you from personal experience that base layers are extremely essential. What I like to do is for the first layer I wear thermal, for the second layer I stick with fleece, and the third I go with wind and water proof pants and jacket. I have a fleece lined neoprene face covering and use ear muffs and stocking cap, I have a fleece lined hoodie that I wear as a second layer under my weather proof jacket the hood comes in handy. And I wear water proof hiking boots with thick winter socks. In my back pack I keep matches and a lighter, first aid kit, rain poncho, small flashlight, and hot hands hand warmers and pepper spray and small ziplock bags for my cell phone in case of rain. I try to always keep moving and active to keep my blood flowing. My situation has improved since moving here. I still often fantasize about being a survivor of the outdoors. It gives me something to keep my mind at ease.

Personal favs: Patagonia thermal base layer, Darn Tough wool socks, Eddie Bauer First Ascent windproof pants, Kuhl thin wool shirt, Mountain Hardware Ghost Whisperer down jacket, Outdoor Reasearch Helium II rain jacket (and pants if needed), 2 wool buffs (one for neck seal around the jacket, one for the face), a wool beanie, and Marmot waterproof snow gloves. Add in Julbo photochromatic sunglasses to protect the eyes against snow glare, and Keen snow boots (if needed, or Altra Lone Peak 3.5 trail runners if not). With that, I'm good down to around 0 Fahrenheit when moving unless the wind is truly awful.

Well, guess I’m walking around nude waist down to my socks. Sigh

Very good. I know about hiking on the trail. And wearing layers that wick away moisture from the skin and keeping warm. I'm an old hiker.

How long does the shell has to go down? How do I know it's too tight or too loose?

My issue is being so hot and sweating and bo smelling in the armpits of my all my clothes. So annoying, it ruins all my shirts and my jackets stink. I'm hoping Marino wool will stop all thos nonsense. Besides Marino wool, what synthetic material such as what? Polyester makes me stink and sweat also.

Hi, I have some trouble knowing when I go from worm to sweat. If I sweat I get a little cold and then I need to cover up and then more sweat. Is it just me?
Thanks, Trail Flea....
