This video details the process of scribing multiple timber posts to a stone plinth foundation, then aquiring a zero reference for the layout of joinery. Very useful techniques permitting the placement of a timber frame over uneven ground anywhere you need without any dirt movement or other hassles.

Using the bucket of water with a clear tube as a level was ground breaking to me, id never thought of it but as soon as i saw you doing it i immediately knew what was happening, it blew my mind.

I'm going to be using that from now on, incredibly useful

The timbers seemingly melt into the rock. The water level method is timeless. Excellent

The person who delivered my Vermont Shed and I were talking as we unloaded the lumber, and it seemed like we had nothing in common, until we started talking about how we were going to treat our various wood structure projects at our homes. We accidentally started talking about the techniques we learned from you. Really sweet moment. Thank you.

I can't express how satisfying it was to watch those seams disappear

Using the bucket to find the same height on every post is one of the smartest things ive ever seen. Love watching and learning things i never would have thought of!

I love how the posts stand still, motionless and level, just like the earth

Mr C, you never cease to amaze me with your skills. That is some damn fine craftsmanship, scribing posts so well that they stand up plumb, by themselves. Seriously outstanding.

I inherited my 3xgreat grandfather's broadaxe, 2"chisel, some planes, drawknife etc couple years back. All emaculate condition- the bevel from his last sharpening.
Was blown away and knew that I would use them to build. They just struck me as ready to do work again.
Bought land winter before last. Hewed beams all last summer. had a cut'n fill done. Been practicing, collecting and learning tools. This summer, I build my first building. So exited, frequent your channel

Just got done ferrying a truck home over 700 miles. What's waiting for me: NOT TRAFFIC. NOT A CLATTERY BANGING COLLECTION OF METAL. The sibilant hiss of a sharp blade through well seasoned timber.

Mr. Chickadee is a welcome home I can really enjoy.

I've always loved the string line scribing tool as an ingeniously simple tool I didn't know existed but I think the water level takes the cake. Thanks for another soothing video!
