My grandmother, & mom were bus drivers for TriMet, and now my Dad has been driving buses for TriMet 29 years now.

When i was hired in 81, I started out driving those 35 ft. NewLook GMs, and 35 ft. Flxibles. Couple years later they got some new ADB GMs that looked like lunar modules, kind of cool looking. Before those were the AM Generals, made by AMC . they didn't last very long but, they had extra low gears, so they could accelerate better up hills. Since I signed low ridership lines I drove a lot of the Gillig 30 ft. 1600s . When i retired, the newest buses were the New Flyer 2800s . Got to drive those too, and the best things about the low floors are the easy to use lifts.

Also saw 3050 testing this week in downtown Portland — one of the three BRT’s that got converted to electric/new paint scheme

The Flxible Metro was a Trimet icon compared to the Gillig Phantom. they had 326 Metros and only 173 Phantoms. the last ones were retired in 2015 only 1 year before the Gillig Phantoms.

As a power wheelchair user I miss the New Flyer buses. They seemed to be wider so more room to turn around if needed in a big power chair.
