This drill is designed to teach you to hit "dead center" on the cue ball and avoid unintentional english (spin). Even if you're only off by a slight amount, that is often the difference between making a shot and missing it. This effect is exaggerated when playing with a high performance pool shaft that is designed to produce a lot of action on the cue ball.
