Your Shinola rant was devoid of any useful info as to the watch itself. You would gain credibility if you actually bought a Shinola, used it awhile and then commented on the watch itself.

Ive had their Runwell for years and although it may have costed approximately $550 I have not regretted my purchase. Customer service has been phenomenal. I disagree with this video.

I learned absolutely nothing about why Shinola watches are “bad.” Maybe try harder next time.

I do not own one of these. I think they are overpriced. But they are not alone (looking at you Bremont). That said, I still don't understand what you don't like about the watches other than price. You are heavy on rant, low an analysis.

I wish you gave an explanation on why you think Shinola is garbage instead of talking about their branding. I own two and yes while I agree that they can be pricey I believe you shouldn’t judge it by its marketing mistakes. I’m from Detroit and the first time I needed a new battery and also cleaned up the leather band for me without asking which in my opinion is a company that cares about quality and people. They have an excellent design and build quality. So id first check them out before judging them.

The intelligent viewer might ask; how can someone who has never owned a Shinola make a credible review? The obvious answer is, you can not. I was given an $850 Filson Chronograph as a gift, which is made by Shinola and it keeps better time than my Rolex 24K Presidential and as good as my Cartier. So if anyone is looking for a review with intellectual integrity, thus far I would rate my Filson/Shinola as a ruggedly handsome and accurate timepiece. PS Beautiful crystal case and impeccable attention to detail.

Ok first off I appreciate the work you do. And you make a good point: shinolas are overpriced and they have some misleading marketing about the origin of their parts and movements (Ronda for quartz and Selita for automatic).

That being said - I love shinola watches. I own both a quartz and an automatic. The product design is so sleek in my opinion - I love the trench watch style of the runwell and the heft of the watches is satisfying on the wrist. Their color combos are typically really well thought out and the quality of their leather bands is amazing (although also overpriced - $115 for leather quick release straps 🤨).

Anyway to all those who are on the fence about at least a runwell - I can assure you this watch enthusiast (me) is very satisfied with shinola watches.

You should check out this brand again. I have owned a Runwell Shinola for almost 6 years now and it has been fantastic. I own automatic Seiko's, etc. and I feel this brand is just fine. They are providing jobs in Detroit and the build Quality on the pieces are worth the price in my opinion. Yes the quartz movement is nothing special but I feel the fit and finish of the watch makes up for that. All in all its a great looking simplistic piece I can look at on my wrist, get the time, and enjoy knowing I am supporting a company that is made themselves a well made foothold in the City of Detroit. I love your videos, I just feel this one came off a bit to watch snobby in my opinion.

My brother works in the factory in Detroit. Puts the watches together.

For the watch snob, I can understand the skepticism especially after going into a store where the employees have limited knowledge or lack credibility. For a guy who cares about quality and style but isnt a watch aficionado, I find Shinola appealing - easily above designer watches but not as expensive or as gaudy in style as other high end watches. I would typically not spend over $300 on any kind of watch anyway so when I found a watch with a beige/gold accents on sale over the holidays, I grabbed it and I love the watch. Simple, understated but unique.

Today (Sunday) I was in a NYC Manhattan Upper West Side coffee shop (diner) having a late breakfast and wearing my Omega Seamaster. I was talking with another guy who was alone at the table next to me. He was in his 60's dressed a bit rumpled, but I got the impression that he was well-to-do--maybe recently retired, or maybe still working a bit. I saw that he was wearing a good-size chronograph on a nato, which looked impressive, from where I was sitting. I couldn't see what it was, and I wasn't going to get closer and try to look at his hand, so finally I asked him "What's that chronograph?" He told me "It's from Detroit, " so I said "Oh, a Shinola!" He told me he has several other watches that are quite expensive, I asked him what they were. He told me he's got an AP, a Piaget and a Blancpain, but he mostly wears the Shinola now. He said it works great and he likes it a lot.
All I can say is just looking at it, in action, on somebody's wrist, the Shinola made a nice impression. And there are people who know watches who buy Shinolas.

So what actually makes them bad? I'm not being shitty, I'm actually asking.

Four years later, you should revisit the Shinola (especially a nice simple watch like the New "Mechanic" model, with white face & blue numbers)... See if you still feel the same... Great quality watches, saphire crystal, screw down crowns, visible movement, signed crowns, etc...

I have the run well sport Chrono in cream. I love the way it looks. It’s relatively well-built, the leather work is fantastic and at under $1000 who cares. Is it overpriced? Sure, but this is a stupid thing that tells time. Everything that everyone wears on here is overpriced.

There's nothing wrong with Shinola. Decent watches, great styles. Maybe a little overpriced

Eh dont agree with this. I have two shinolas but i do have a comment to how you get the quality and feel from one. If you live outside of michigan and never been to detroit dont buy one. Its like buying a cheese hat outside of Wisconsin. It just doesn’t make sense. Shinola is a detroit brand. Yes, imported parts but it has brought jobs to detroit (good jobs) and the straps are hand stitched and made in house. As for the watch. When you purchase one, people know what shinola is, they know that what the company is. If you live in detroit you know they made bikes, leather goods, and of course watches. Its a retro stye but with a classy touch. Until you actually own one and buy one to feel the experience you then understand alittle more. From the outside i can totally see overpriced and mabye a mixed image but from the inside its a brand like wearing a michigan sweatshirt for watch people. Its definitely home grown price tag but the quality and service you get with one shows it value.

I like this guys channel but he is WAY off about his knowledge of Shinola. I do agree with him that they are too expensive for the quartz movements. I own one and have slight buyers remorse simply due to the price. But I love the watch and how it looks! Get compliments all the time since it has a unique look to it.

He also mentions their “identity crisis”...has he ever bought an American car?? They are not 100% built in America by any measure and use imported parts and components yet people still want to support an American company/brand and buy them because they like them. Which is what it’s all about. It’s not just a “flex” on how much you know about affordable alternatives to high end luxury watches or how it makes you so mad that some people simply like a watch and want to pay for it.

This guy probably secretly likes the watch but has to act all hot and bothered to make himself feel better about buying a Seiko.
