How to make the perfect classic British homemade trifle. The most delicious trifle ever!
Recipe and instructions for trifle. Prepare in 3 steps.
FRUIT JELLY
Separate jelly cubes and place in bowl
Add hot water
Stir until dissolved
Add fruit segments of choice
Refrigerate until mixture sets
Add optional toppings of choice
CAKE LAYER
RECIPE & INSTRUCTIONS
1 cup of butter
2 cups of sugar
3 cups of flour
3 or 4 medium/large eggs
1 cup of water
2 tablespoons of baking soda
Vanilla extract
Lemon extract (optional)
Mix sugar and butter. This helps to make the cake fluffy.
Mix flour and eggs, then add baking soda. Add sugar and butter mix. Blend well. It is important to dry mix before adding water. After adding water, pour in the walnuts. Add some zest to your cake by adding a drop of vanilla extract and lemon extract.
Place in oven for around 25-30 mins, or until middle of cake is baked. This can be tested by carefully dipping a fork into the cake to test for consistency.
Once cooled at room temperature, soak in a non-alcoholic beverage to moisten. Leave until just moist.
CUSTARD
Recipe and instructions:
3 or 4 medium-large egg yolks
1/2 pint of milk (or depending on servings)
Small cup of Demerara sugar
Vanilla extract
Lemon extract
2 tablespoons of cornflour (depending on consistency)
Cold water
Pour milk into a saucepan and add sugar. Place on low heat until mixture is dissolved.
Mix egg yolks with vanilla extract and (optional) lemon extract. Add the mixture of 2 tablespoons of cold water with cornflour.
PLEASE NOTE. It is important to add cornflour with cold water and stir before adding the mixture to the egg mixture. This is because the cold water will help the cornflour to dissolve and avoid a lumpy or bitty texture.
once the cornflour and eggs are fully mixed, add the milk and sugar mixture but ensure this is off the stove.
Once all ingredients are mixed, place back on stove until fully stored and heated.

Double cream
Cornflour
Pour cream into bowl. Mix cornflour and water separately. Add to cream. Additional cornflour depends on level of cream consistency.
