There were times where Benson was kind of an asshole, namely eating Mordekai and Rigby's LUNCH, (you do not touch someone else's food!) and the second time almost got him KILLED because he ate the Death Sandwich that you need to eat in a SPECIFIC WAY to not have it kill you.

Just the same, EARLY SEASON Squidward was an asshole and would suffer appropriate comeuppance that was straight up comedic (how the fuck do you just spontaneously explode a bit after you fall off a cliff!?) but LATER SEASONS Squidward became more the 'everyman' and suddenly it just became Squidward Torture.

Squidward is an intellectual who lives around idiots and has to work as a fast food worker. He was the valedictorian in school and was voted most likely to suceed by his class and he has to watch a buch of idiots hate on him every time he tries to do his thing.

To be fair… Squidward always have to deal with Patrick and SpongeBob breaking into his house, destroying this things, literally *attacking* him… and nothing is done about it.

And Patrick and SpongeBob simply won’t listen! They’ll shrug it off as if it’s a joke! Like when those two dressed up as heroes and pretended Squidward was a super villain in his gardens, then went in to destroy his garden and hand him the remains while Patrick eats some of it in front of him!

Sure, Modicai and Rigby get into huge shenanigans too, even bigger than Patrick and SpongeBob, but at least they don’t purposely destroy property and harass everyone, and they at least *try* to fix their mistakes. They’ve also never full on attacked Benson before! At least during a regular day (did not mean to make a pun there, but it fits! 😂 ).

I feel like Squidward has it worse than Benson.

Now, Benson? Yes, his frustration is justified, but you have to remember that he can be a straight up ass sometimes; he'll dump a dangerous job on Mordecai and Rigby or have them mow an entire football field all over again over the potential lawsuits caused by grass that is too high by a measly inch.

But the reason why Squidward has it worse is that the writers will go out of their way to justify abusing and torturing Squidward by making him as unlikeable as possible. Squidward will be minding his own business and then suddenly get kidnapped and assaulted by SpongeBob and Patrick, and then the writers will justify this by giving us an episode to make Squidward as scummy as possible.

It's almost like the writers nowadays don't WANT us to like Squidward.

I agree that sometimes the stuff that happens to Squidward is more justified. Esp. in the earlier seasons and somewhat in the middle seasons.

But like, a lot of the time he just wants to be left alone and he will get tortured. And they do stuff like break into his house and destroy it. And even cause him physical suffering sometimes.

In later seasons he is even kind of scared of SpongeBob.

I’m not saying Squidward can’t be a jerk, he can, but he can show compassion too, and there is just too many Squidward episodes now and in a lot of them he doesn’t even deserve the stuff happening to him.

And you just feel kind of bad for him honestly.

Squidward became more relatable as the show got progressively worse. In the first 3 seasons he was just a grouch

Squidward is more like a teen. He’s so over kiddy stuff, but he is way too childish for the adult world.

Nah, Benson is still a pathetic jerk. Most people forget that he:

1. Forbid Mordecai and Rigby from taking a break at work and eating these luxurious burgers. Then, when they were saving the burgers from two doppelgangers, Benson ate the burgers and boasted about it to them.

2. Refused to do anything when the Geese attacked the park, acting like "Whatever, I don't care. You two (Mordecai and Rigby) will handle it". When Rigby criticized Benson about this, Benson got angry like a manchild and chased the two away.

3. Forbid to let Mordecai and Rigby from watching a Japanese Game Show, only because he didn't like the show himself.

4. Chased Mordecai and Rigby and tried spoiling them the finale of their favorite show out of spite because they didn't do the work first. Even his argument when asked by Eileen made it more obvious he is a manchild.

5. Wanted to fire Rigby because, of all things, he was inpersonating Benson. Granted, Rigby was being a little rude. But seriously? That is the thing that makes you fire him? Then, when Rigby and Muscle Man are about to drown, Benson is told to help, but he is like "Nah. The timer for Rigby's work isn't done yet."

6. Taunted Mordecai and Rigby during the Pie Contest. Then when they standed up agaisnt Benson threatning to fire them, he forced them to work to make himswlf look superior (admittedly more understandable than the others, but still acted like a douche.)

7. Simped for Natalia even after she almost killed and destroyed the park.

8. Made a tamtrum to his workers to clean up a mess even after they fought to the death to bring him a Best Boss Mug Gift.

True Benson has his moments were he takes things too far and crosses some lines but he’s at least 90% in the right

Squidward on the other hand is a egocentric jerk who has this delusions he’s handsome even though he’s hideous and the reason everyone hates his art is because he based it all solely on himself
