It's awesome that these shortcuts exist, but now the problem is I am not able to remember all of these commands 💀

"Don't touch your mouse" my first thought: nano, vim, neovim, emacs etc

Me when I have to hit CTRL + 0 and then hit the up arrow 20 times followed by 3 enters and 10 down arrows instead of just taking 3 seconds to click it

There is also control+p to search for a file

Can't thank enough for this video. These commands were in front of me the whole time, but I never even bothered to try what CTRL + 1-0 would do. These were the last shortcuts I needed. Thank you so much!

just spam up and down arrow 20x to get where you want rather than 2 clicks

In the time he took to explain this concept, I have clicked on -- and opened -- all the files I was looking for.

True productivity in coding is having a plan and knowing how to implement something. I get bogged down by unclear requirements and having to read a ton of code written by other people more, not by the 3 seconds it takes to grab, move, and click the mouse

The key to productivity in coding is focusing on things that actually cost time rather than frivolities like this. Even while you’re programming and not thinking, planning, reading, in a call, in a meeting etc., how much of your time is spent actually pressing buttons rather than designing the next line you need to write? Maybe 10%? It may be frustrating to go back and forth between different devices, but it’s not hindering your productivity.

Right, because productivity in coding comes from how fast you enter your code into the editor!)

I think the key to productivity in coding is actually knowing how to code...

Key to productivity in coding is to have good codebase where it's easy to make changes while keeping good quality.
Writing fast or using shortcuts will save time overall, but usually it's one of smallest parts of work. Yeah you will save maybe 5 minutes in a day everyday, but what is the difference if you spend few hours on meetings?
Optimize things that take most time or are most awful to do first.

Shortcuts are indeed nice but those are not that useful

There is no way this is faster than me using my mouse to locate the file. File search is useful though.

Vs code shortcut to chatgpt:
Hold your nose and press control alt down arrow, then hold your breath and say up up down down left right and tilt your head back and scream "chatgpt" with a mouth full of water without spitting.
Chatgpt will open immediately.

My apologies if this is a duplicate comment.

Irl, you will either ctrl click reference to access it, double tap shift to search class, or ctrl shift F to search in project.. shortcuts are more useful to steps that take more effort - going back and forth in action history - you click through chain of methods, then want to go back where you started - you either have to search for the original place, or you can ctrl alt left or right arrow. That saves time, not avoiding your mouse altogether

This is nice and all, but typing code and navigating files is not the problem… it’s thinking what the hell to write there in the first place 😂

I always code faster with my keyboard, but I enjoy the highlighting feature that my mouse has

The key to productivity is writing the code and not wasting hours trying to get good at shortcuts that will only pay off the time spent learning after many years, if you don't move on to a new editor anyway.
