Joe Pass is one of the most influential jazz guitarists to ever pick up a guitar. Even if you don't spend months transcribing and learning entire songs, you should still learn important lessons from his comping, so you get away from sounding like you are playing random jazz chords without groove or flow!

My name is Jens Larsen, a Danish Jazz Guitarist and Educator. The videos on this channel will help you explore and enjoy Jazz. Some of them teach you how to play jazz guitar, but other videos focus on Music Theory, like Jazz Chords, or offer advice on practicing and learning Jazz on guitar or any other instrument.

The videos are mostly jazz guitar lessons, music theory, song analysis, and videos on jazz guitars.

I love how tasteful Joe’s playing is with Ella. Really beautiful mutual respect. This album is perfection! I also enjoy seeing how much @jenslarsen enjoys the music 😁

Thanks for demystifying Joe’s brilliance in everyday language Jens, which is in itself brilliant 👌

Brilliant video. Everything Joe played was alway perfect. The man played with white gloves. Every note and chord so clear and melodic

Hi, Jens, from one of jazz's first homes, northwest Indiana. I can't think of anyone whose jazz guitar channel rivals yours.

I love how Joe Pass used some voicings that don't include 3rd. It goes to tell that "always include 3rds and 7ths in voicings" is a suggestion, not a rule.

I liked this lesson because you took some more time with the details

Thanks for this wonderful bit on Joe Pass. So useful! When working on chord/melody, this is the "bread & butter" that helps.
Thanks for the link to his Jazz/Blues. Wonderful stuff.

One of my weaknesses is trying to be too rhythmically intricate. I appreciate Jens pointing out the simplicity of Joe Pass.

Joe is obviously the man, but not starting out in jazz myself, the guitarist that first sent my in this direction was João Gilberto.

Brilliant Jens. As an aside Joe rarely spoke of flat five or tritone substitutions. He prefered describing this as approaching the target chord from a semitone above. It is the KISS principle!!!
