Your video is the first I have seen that uses gate hinges for a Murphy Bed. I had figured gate hinges were strong enough, but all I had seen people use were specialized or self made hinges that required knowing how to wield. Keep up the great work.

If you could add the key hole, and make it actuate the gate lock to release the bed.... that'd be snazzy

I created shoe supports (under the tardis)instead of the gate hitch to hold it up. My whovian is a little short.

Would I be able to use a design like this for a queen? Not necessarily as the TARDIS, but as a murphey - if I had it folding up against the wall along the long side rather than the top end? Or should I keep looking for something to make that work? Also, this is an amazing bed, and looks great!

next time use 3/4" ply and pocket screws for your frame will not have to deal with end grain issues

I know this is a late response, but I am curious how the bed is holding up after all this time? Most Murphy beds I have seen use heavy-duty hinges and springs for the assembly, so I am curious how the gate hinge is working out.

I gotta do this! The only problem is that my grandson will fight me for it! lol

do you think this plan would work for a king size? Obviously you'd have to make it bigger ... and well, you'd probably need more strength to lift it, but you could double up on the gate latches on each side.
