#127 - Dell 2407WFPb monitor repair

preview_player
Показать описание
SMPS had a cascading failure seemingly starting from a leaked electrolytic capacitor. Both power factor correction IC and the main PWM IC died with some other components such as a MOSFET, current sense resistor and a few more.

Great work, that PF circuit took quite a beating...cheers.

I have one of these that went "pop" last night. So far it looks like exactly the same scenario: leaky HV cap and visibly blown sense resistor. I suspect I will be following your repair to the letter. Much respect and gratitude!

I had a similar failure on mine. I took a different approach to repair. I cut the positive line to the 12v external power jack, and jumpered it to the DC bus caps on the LV side. I then fed 19v in from a laptop supply using the DC jack. It's been that way for some years now and it's all good.

Fabulous video. I happen to have this Dell monitor since about 2001 and it finally died on me. A good monitor and I still like it a lot. I will attempt to repair it. Your video is a good guide line. Thank you very much indeed.

Fun! I did repair the same monitor a while ago. I've documented my repair on my blog (which yt does really not want me to link here...)
The HV capacitor had exactly the same look, and it had the exact same cascading failure.

Thanks

Nice it when semi-conductors fail and it requires a good old proper job.

Wau! What a repair job! Great work, how many weeks did you work on this monitor and spend time on waiting for parts to arrive? I would have given up after the mains cap :)

Such patience is amazing. You must be a fantastic father 😊
I think very few of us would bother with that PFC, once the ps is working. Kudos, Sir
Could you explain how this PFC chip is working? I suppose the load is inductive

After 16 years my Dell 2407WFPb monitor made this strange noise for a couple of seconds, and then it was dead. It was about time. But I just bought one of those 450v 120uf capacitor, which was also corroded, and hopefully just replacing that will bring it back to life.

Again a nice repair! First time I've seen you use the isolation transformer too, nice bit of kit

Nice job! I probably would have just left the pfc section out instead of waiting for the control chip to arrive, but nice to see you care about your power factor 😁

Thats intense! I have a 2408WFP with sporadic power problems. But I have no idea how to test anything aside from continuity.
