Release Date: September 27, 2019

Synopsis:
Winter 1968 and showbiz legend Judy Garland arrives in Swinging London to perform a five-week sold-out run at The Talk of the Town. It is 30 years since she shot to global stardom in The Wizard of Oz, but if her voice has weakened, its dramatic intensity has only grown. As she prepares for the show, battles with management, charms musicians and reminisces with friends and adoring fans, her wit and warmth shine through. Even her dreams of love seem undimmed as she embarks on a whirlwind romance with Mickey Deans, her soon-to-be fifth husband. Featuring some of her best-known songs, the film celebrates the voice, the capacity for love, and the sheer pizzazz of “the world’s greatest entertainer.”

Sometimes, the movies replace an actor's voice with a professional singer. For many years, it was Marnie Nixon. She sang for Natalie Wood in West Side Story, for Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady, did some of Marilyn Monroe's vocals (the high notes), etc.
The little bit I heard of Renee's vocals don't have Judy's sound. I'm sure Hollywood could dub a good singer if they chose.
I'm a musician, and the truth is that you just can't expect any actress to imitate Judy Garland. Her sound was unique. Maybe the studio thinks that most Judy Garland fans won't remember how incredibly she sang. Judy's vocal in The Wizard of Oz was... there's no word for it. For a young girl to have such a gift is amazing.
I hope that when I watch the movie, I will change my mind on Renee's vocal chops. But the little I've heard makes me wish a new Marni Nixon (she died a few years ago) was standing with a microphone behind the scenes and dubbing her vocals.

NOT feeling the vocals at all. LOVE Renee', and her acting will win raves, but I know Judy's voice inside and out, and she misses the mark completely. I'll definitely still see it despite being able to only hear a tired Roxy Hart.
