"Cadenza" (1974) by Lucie Robert

"S.O.S. Starification Object Series" featured by Hannah Wilke in 1974.
Wilke's work helped to usher in the crucial first wave of feminist art in the 1960s and 1970s, by openly talking and making art about femininity, feminism, and sexuality. This specific work destroys conventional western depictions of beauty and the objectification of the female body.

"I chose gum because it’s the perfect metaphor for the American woman (...) chew her up, get what you want out of her, throw her out, and pop in a new piece."

I have made this connection between these visual and musical works because they both date from 1974 and, just like Wilke's work, Robert's music is, in my opinion, extremely powerful, and a great celebration of feminine empowerment.
