This release perfectly captures the feel of Russia - dark, grim tales, endless fields, the stench of ages old rot. Even the name of the act - rye must be the first word that comes to mind when I think of Russia, it has so many connotations, most of which are heavy and depressing, or transcendental at best. And that sound of logs in the fire wets my eyes. I think Рожь is a great example of having connection to your roots and using it. In my 33 years of living thats exactly the kind of sounds that plays in my mind when I think about the childhood years spent in the countryside.

The mix of atmospheric black metal, funeral doom, and even neofolk (I think?) makes for a very mournful, but beautiful sound. Absolutely loving this one.

Came across this album through the similar artists section on Bandcamp and was instantly swept away by its sound. Been listening nonstop all day.

Another thing I appreciate about this album is exactly the right amount of vocals. They are mostly in the background and included only in a limited capacity at exactly the right moments. This album could easily have been a notch lower if there had been constant generic black metal shrieking right in the foreground. He found exactly the right balance, however. I think this might be as close to perfect as this style of atmospheric "post" black metal can be; the only thing I can think of that might rival this is Ash Borer's amazing split with Fell Voices from way back in 2012, but even that just isn't quite on this level of musical perfection.
