I love this explanation TIff. Since I am rabbit holed up in Microsoft Dynamics, I don't really get the opportunity to use APIs. So, even having done dev work and Javascript now for many years, that part of it is still new to me. Thanks.

Good example but I think a menu card is a better example than a waiter. (You can't just ask the Waiter what you want to eat )
The menu card is the API that lists what can be ordered.
If you don't have a menu card, people would just walk into the kitchen and grabbed whatever they liked.
