Great comparison video!
Another tip I think not many people know about is actually using 13" wires for a 14" snare (provided you use straps or cords that are long enough).
That way I feel like your ghost notes sound crisper, while at the same time, as you lay into the drum, it softens up more, so you get the best of both worlds.
And if you're like me and prefer less strands to hear more of the drum (even down to 8 can get enough wire sound, like Gavin Harrison uses), you can just snap them with a metal clipper tool. But then it is important to pay attention that you don't actually bend the other wires, which would cause them to loosen and rattle.
Maybe this helps some of you :)

IMO the sweet spot was 20 or 24 strand. The 16 strand wasn't crisp enough for my taste, and the 30 and 42 I know from experience cannot be tightened enough across the full width to sound crisp - they always sound too loose.
I would have liked to hear a comparison between the different metal wire compositions available. For example, Pearl makes gold-plated wire; others offer steel, bronze, etc. And also there are various types of coils - standard "pen spring style" vs. guitar-wound style, etc. I'm sure there's some differences there.

I don't have a single cent of profit from this comment, or is it really an advertisement, but I would like to draw the attention of my colleagues to the fact that there is a gentleman named Zoran Bibin. He makes hand-made wire for snare that are simply fantastic. I tried it and I was convinced. otherwise every PURESOUND snare wire I try, is also great.
