Put 100% Into Bitcoin?

Learn to buy anonymous Bitcoin:

In this video, I discuss the factors to consider when thinking about how much Bitcoin you should own.

There's no "one size fits all" solution to this, since everyone has different net worths, income levels, expected expenses, risk tolerance, etc.

Asking other people how much Bitcoin you should own is a little bit like people asking Mozart for permission to get into the symphony writing business.

Holding Bitcoin without understanding Bitcoin is a recipe for disaster. You'll never survive the FUD and volatility. That's why you need to do a lot of research and not rush into large allocations to BTC.

And that's why you cannot ask other people how much of your money you should put into BTC.

Not investment advice! Consult a financial advisor.

Charlie Munger's Mozart anecdote:

Cyprus banks stole their customers' money:

Hold only as much fiat as you are prepared to lose:

I am Venezuelan. I really didn't have a choice, so I'm 100% all in on bitcoin (except for the house). The difference between my situation and that of someone from the US or Europe is just timing and a question of scale- but you will all get to where I am eventually because the so called first world is being Venezuelanized sooner or later. And by the way, I do find that I sleep easier at nights because of this.

It wasn’t your “advice” that convinced me to put 100% into Bitcoin, 2 years ago - it was the fundamentals that you presented so well and the fact that I could verify (not “trust”) everything myself. It took about a year for me to DCA everything out of my retirement accounts into self-custodied Bitcoin. THANK YOU for your ongoing commitment to educating the community.

I put everything into Bitcoin, except a bit of cash. We aren’t talking lots of money, but it’s all I’ve got. I studied Bitcoin, very thoroughly, subscribed for a couple of months, to Matt’s site; watched the additional content - it was worth every penny. Once I really comprehended the concept of Bitcoin and the history, there was no other choice. It was such a relief; such a wonderful surprise in the midst of so much darkness in the world. I sold all my stocks, in 2021 - I trusted my intuition. I’m SO glad I did. It all lead me to Matthew, and the pursuit of a much more thorough education about economics. It’s the confidence I have in the concept of Bitcoin, that gives me a sense of security. Not the price, not the fluctuation of the markets, none of this; not a person, not even Matthew. There is a purity in this, that gives it such integrity.

I remember the first time Bitcoin clicked in my mind after watching an 1 1/2 hour podcast with Michael Saylor. Couldn’t sleep that night, was looking at my savings account loaded with fiat and felt an urgent need to convert a giant chunk into Bitcoin to stop the bleeding. I did just that and am forever grateful. Thank you Matthew.

Everything you said I agree with, except for gold and silver. Back in 2018 (I think), I bought 3 BTC at $350 each. Later that year, I read some negative articles about BTC (yeah, my first exposure to DUD) and sold them at $600 each. Later on into 2019, I sold all my gold and silver for about 3 or 4 BTCs and have held my current 7 regardless of market moves. Oh, and I bought gold and silver again accumulating a nice large amount of each. I did this for safe investment as neither of them will go to a zero price. And I like having a tangible horde that we can see and count. Phys is good! I'm 76 and not sure how long I might live to see BTC hit at least $100k. I'm a subber of yours and really like your low key approach with reliable info. Cheers, Bob

What an absolutely fantastic observation. I do have basically all my wealth in cold storage in btc. I have stepped off the treadmill, and I stack true wealth and now have a new mindset where the future looks so much brighter.

Thanks for sharing my sentiments. I have been scared to recommend to anyone what to do. But I know for me, all in on true preservation of my purchasing power is what I want. I am NOT and investor. I am a saver! This is my vehicle. But now, saving is actually an effective strategy.

Love that Mozart comparison.

I also have been buying since 2019 - still bought at the 50-60K peak thinking it would continue up, then bought more at 20K and below. Haven't sold a single sat.

Curiosity leads to knowledge, knowledge leads to conviction and conviction increases your position size. Your journey is the same as mine Matt. Sold everything I had and could and I’m strictly 100% bitty.

Matthew, thank you. As someone who has brought this topic up multiple times in your comments sections, I am delighted to see this addressed in this video. I already have a significant amount of wealth in BTC and continue to decrease my fiat holding over time as my conviction grows. Hearing about your journey away from fiat and into BTC gives us an interesting perspective on the matter. That said, I continue to read, research and listen to increase my knowledge and conviction as it relates to BTC. I find it fascinating to hear about others’ experiences in this respect but my decisions and actions are my own and not based on what others do. Thank you again.

Thank you Matthew for another great video! I sold a commercial building that I owned in 2018. It was about half of my net wealth at the time. In April of 2019 I used all of that money and turned it into bitcoin. Since then it has been hard for me not to sell everything else I own and buy more bitcoin. I have been dollar cost averaging every week since June of 2019. I live a simple life and can save 30% of every pay check and buy more bitcoin. The only time I ever sold bitcoin was in March of 2022. I broke my leg in March of 2022 play hockey. I sold all the bitcoin that I purchased (dca) at a higher price($47, 000) to avoid paying capital gains. i wanted to have a little money for rent and bills. It turned out that I did not need the money and watched the price drop to $20, 000 later that year. Then I was able to buy back the bitcoin I sold and was back to work in August 2022. I have continued to dca every week since then. Thank you again for all your videos.

I’m too much of a capitalist to have all of my eggs in one basket. But I don’t believe I’ve ever heard an episode that didn’t resonate with me on your channel Matt.

This one in particular. The most difficult thing for me to move 70% of assets into BTC was my wife. It’s taken 2 years and absolute resolve to wait her out! I had faith that eventually I would win the war!

Woman are insanely stubborn when it comes to money. But, documenting my journey & having morning coffee conversations with her paid off.

Now she is as passionate about BTC as I am. Maybe more because she keeps asking me “what’s all this XPP doing here?”

In any case, it’s clear that Bitcoin will be the world’s stable cryptocurrency. And it will remain the most valued digital asset I own. But I don’t ignore other opportunities either and that’s just my personal perspective. I also respect Matt’s!

Understanding bitcoin is accelerated by the manner in which it enables us to understand the system we have been living through. I wonder how many of us have spent way more time diving into it than we would have imagined on first coming across it. It's taken up most of my spare time even when doing other things; I skate while listening to bitcoin podcasts, I work while listening to bitcoin podcasts, my reading is all in economics and I think about bitcoin all the time. Obviously I check this brilliant channel every day too. Thanks Matt.
