Hello, so quick question, I recently just got a cisco router, switch, and firewall to set up in my home network.
I know a little excesive, however I'm also using them as a lab environment to ensure functionality to all my equipment, computer, wifi, gaming consoles etc.
So, on my router, I have an inside network of 10.x.x.x/24 sub split into 5 vlans using trunking port via the switch.
now my firewall is hooked up to my modem and assigned an outside ip from my isp via dhcp.
so for my middle (outside) internal network, i know that i cannot assign a same ip subnet to my outside router port going to the firewall as my inside network.
so i have my outside 172.x.x.x/24 which is requiring me to double NAT which is causing issues with things such as my consoles or even my pc when i want to game.
Is there a way around having to double nat where the inside interface and the outside interface of the router can be on the same ip subnet ex.
10.20.20.1 for the inside and 10.20.20.50 for the outside?
Or should I just remove the router from the picture and just have the firewall going directly to the switch? though it is to my understanding that the ASA cisco series doesn't do actual routing.
Please let me know.
Thank you
