Precision Night Vision (PNV) IR Torch comparison

Introducing a very affordable add-on IR Laser Illuminator from Precision Night Vision, which is aimed at the budget end of the market, but as you’ll see is very effective out to 200yards.
Again the telegraph pole pictured is at 200 yards / 183m.


It comes with a basic (non-adjustable) clamp-type bracket. Bruce has measured the IR power at 377MW, so believes it’s probably a 500MW source.

For comparison he also built his own similar-sized 501B IR Laser torch (500MW), which is also demonstrated in the video. You can see both the PARD008 and PNV IR Torches outperform the 501B, at least at 200 yard ranges anyway.

My apologies to Bruce it seems I had a blonde moment and missed adding his comments from 4:09 onwards, as follows...

04.09 - 008 and PNV together- this gave the best image

04.23 - 008 off, only PNV on - image still bright, but not as "smooth"

04.27 - 008 back on at various powers along with PNV - both illuminators on at the same time definitely produces the best image

04.44 - 008 off, only PNV on

Thanks Russ and Bruce for yet another indepth review. Personally I am more than happy with the level of illumination that the pards onboard ir unit provides. I have a bullion of 18650 batteries so the level of power drainage is of no concern to me, but it's always good to hear of alternatives and thank you both for your endeavours. ATB... BILLY 👍

Hopefully that annoying sound can be removed on the oo8 on a firmware update, as it ruins recordings imo.
