This is the second movement from a set of pieces entitled "Watercolors" by the Norwegian composer Alf Hurum (1882-1972). Hurum was born in Christiania (Oslo) and studied composition with Max Bruch in Berlin. Later, he studied in St. Petersburg and Paris, where he heard the music of Impressionists. The influence of Debussy is especially apparent in several of these "Watercolors."
Later in life, Hurum settled in Honolulu, where he was the conductor of the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra. Eventually he focused on painting instead of music, giving up composing to focus on creating visual art.
