Gavin Newsom, like the rest of the left, is very selective with the "your body, your choice" principle, to the point where it ONLY applies to abortion—not even other health care issues!

For "pro choice" specifically. If you're "my body, my choice" Then mothers should be jailed for any disease their child is born with, that is directly linked to their behavior. Such as: drug addition and fetal alcohol syndrome.

Shout-out to Carey Wedler who made a video about how hypocritical the Left are when they say “my body my choice”.

It looks like this particular bit of grandstanding only has any meaningful effect in 19 towns and cities very close to the Arizona border. While a woman who wants an abortion and isn't allowed under the laws of her home state to get one in the specific circumstances she has might decide to go out of state to get one, no doctor is going to be willing to travel far to perform one, usually fairly rare, type of care in a different state unless they're very close to it. The clear intention of this law is to have doctors in those 19 towns and cities build abortion clinics on the California side of the border. That would also mean California could apply taxes to those facilities and procedures performed there, a neat little additional revenue stream for the only jurisdiction in North America with worse finances than my home province of Ontario. (And which is proposing to give the equivalent of three years of the state budget as reparations for...what appears to be mostly the product of people's own choices.)
