Cryptid By State Iowa

You guessed it, today we are visiting our next state in the Cryptid By State Series. Iowa isn't really talked about very often when it comes to famous cryptids but it really should be. I dare say it actually has just as many if not more than West Virginia.

I am the Collier that posted the sighting of the large black bird to the Nat'l Cryptid Society website. The location of the sighting was just to the east of the town of Ames (where I live) on US 30 (the Lincoln Highway). Boone, the town where the other person's sighting of a similar avian occured is not very far from that, just to the west of Ames on US 30. I had not known about this 2nd sighting until watching this vid. I've had another encounter in central Iowa with what qualifies as a cryptid. It was certainly an unidentified, and unidentifiable, animal. Ben, if you're interested in hearing about that one, let's figure out a way of getting in touch more directly.There are large stretches of farmland in Iowa that are virtually unpopulated - visited by the farmer only sporadically, as his farming duties require it. Iowa also has some pretty dense woods through the rivervalleys and the high bluffs of N/E Iowa. These could all harbor different forms of cryptids, and the plentiful corn and soybeans throughout the state are an abundant food source.

Aw man, that's awesome- glad to finally hear my home state. I didn't know there was any piranhas encounters in the Missouri river- i would be suprised, that river is like 59 percent murcery and sewage.

As kids we'd camp alone at "skelly mines" just outside Fortdodge. Would hear and occasionally see a dark bipedal thing. Scary as hell but cool. It was really dark so don't know if hairy or not. We just called it the corn stalker.

In the late 90s, I saw a very large dog-like creature with glowing red eyes in Johnson County, Iowa. I could hear a loud growling sound despite being in my car with the stereo on. It kept pace with my car (about 45 mph) for a quarter mile, then disappeared.

The Van Meter Visitor doesn't sound like a Mothman to me. It had bat wings with claws like a bat, a toothy snout or beak, and a blunt, glowing horn. I think it more resembled a pterosaur like animal with bioluminescent bacteria in it's crest. Not that pterosaurs are thought to be able to walk bipedally.

Love this but had to laugh at the image of mountains in Iowa. Iowa is a beautiful, often hilly, state, but definitely no mountains in sight!

Thank you for the awesome video, I live in Fairfax Iowa, an go riding (horses) through timber alot and have had my horse spook an snort at some pretty scary sounds, but to now know a sheriff in my county actually seen the dogman creature makes me think how fortunate I am to have come home safely. Gonna strap on gun next time I ride .

Iowan for 70+ years heard about the snapping turtle back in the 60's. Doesn't have a name but supposedly is in Big Blue Pit in Mason City.

I was excited to see this posted in my feed, Mister Miller, I must say You never disappoint. I enjoy the state history and interesting tidbits about the flag.
As a young man, I visited the Davenport area to see family. While there, I witnessed a Small (5'6 approximately) harry creature hiding in my aunt and uncle's cornfield. Turned out to be my uncle sneaking off to drink a little Kentucky Corn.

02:20 I like that tower. The small town of LaGrange in Tx. has a very similar tower. I find this interesting as (outside of a few Spanish buildings) it's very hard to find a proper castle or tower in the US until the Gothic revival buildings of the 19 Cen-Present. Even then they're not that commonplace and you have to dig a tad to find them.

I'm curious about the alien big cats you mentioned because I believe I had an encounter with one when I night fishing on the ceder river. I heard a weird noise in the brush and the hairs on my neck stood up and I turned on my head lamp to look in the direction of the strange noise and I saw 3 glowing eyes in the shape of a triangle. I don't do drugs or smoke weed. I was completely sober on this night. The size was smaller then a dog but bigger then a house cat... I packed up my fishing gear n got the hell outta there. Haven't gone back to that area to fish.

I was camping one night in north eastern iowa for a couple days to clear my mind with a couple buddies that hunt alot. On the last night there we heard a knock against a tree and it got a response opposite of where we were to our left. Then we heard a little girls voice saying are you my mommy im lost mommy. We could tell it wasnt a human voice and we booked it outta there

I just watched the "Bedtime Stories" vid on the Van Meter monster a few days ago. That incident is so incredibly well documented by upstanding citizens. I think it's odd that no other creatures like that have ever been reported, maybe it was some sort of flight suit for ETs? Thanks for yet another amazing video Ben! I would like to vote for Montana, I know we're getting close to winning!
