Graffiti on the Temples of Ancient Egypt

Graffiti is an age old problem. Most Pharaonic temples are defaced with graffiti from down through the ages. Later dynasties defaced the art of earlier dynasties. Early Greeks and Romans, even Alexander the Great, took part. Even the early Coptic Christians defaced the temples to profess their own beliefs. Much of the graffiti from recent times, dates to the Napoleonic conquest of Egypt and tourists from the 19th century.
