Traxxas Extreme Heavy Duty Upgrade Kit Slash Rally Rustler Hoss 4x4 Stampede Don't waste your money!

I cover the new kit that is out by Traxxas and compare it with other options that have been available for years (RPM and Tekno options). The Traxxas kit does offer the larger bearings. Just keep in mind the purpose of the original vehicle before spending too much money. You may be better off saving up to get a Maxx instead and have two behicles for different purposes.

I'd like to offer a dfferent perspective and why I say think it's worth it if you're starting with a stock truck. The driveshafts that come with this are like the ones on the Maxx which are much thicker than the stock ones. I spent $160 for the just the steel splined driveshafts alone, which are great, but I think these new plastic ones will be very durable option. Now, for $40 less than the steel splined driveshafts you get the addition of heavier duty caster and steering blocks, rear hubs, and the bearings are actually larger bearings than the stock ones. I've replaced all of these parts multiple times which is probably another $50-$60 worth of parts, including the RPM ones, but I've had issues with the screws backing out of the RPM ones so I went back to stock. These look like they are much thicker and more stable, so now you're looking at $100 savings overall by comparison. Also, the Traxxas website said something about the shock towers are to accomidate for the placement of the thicker driveshafts so I'm not sure if they will fit without these new towers unfortunately. If I were starting with a new truck, I'd rather buy this kit vs other aftermarket parts.

I got tired of breaking exactly these parts on both my rustler and my hoss.. its been a really great kit so far.. the axle shafts are exactly the same diameter as the maxx 4s.. lots of beef just like both the front and rear hubs and knuckles.. and for only a fraction of the cost of aluminum..
This whole kit is an excellent upgrade if you are starting with a stock truck. I am hoping this puts an end to breaking axles in both trucks on 3s.. so far so good after a few weeks of use..
What doesn't work very well are rpm arms with this kit.. my buddy had to grind a lot of material off the rpm arms to get the hubs on both the front and back. Otherwise they lock right up when you put the hinge pins in..
The cold weather hd traxxas arms are a perfect fit though.. no clearance issues anywhere and everything went together as it should..

I already have the techno M6 shafts on my slash and stampede. They’re great i don’t have a problem with the shafts, but the plastic is a little on the weak side. They’re strong enough, but if i could fit the ones from the extreme heavy duty kit with the techno shafts i think it’d be on to a winner but i don't know if they fit.

You suggest in the video that the only parts worth geting are the hubs and knuckles. I don't think it was made very clear that the new HD hubs and knuckles will only work with the new drive shafts because the entire spindle end is different. The bearings are bigger because the spindle diameter is larger. This means the new HD carrier parts can not be used separately from the kit as they are not compatable with stock Traxxas and aftermarket drive shafts. I do see that the new larger spindle has a part number but I do not know if it can be transplanted to other shaft systems. I really like how the rear carrier was widened to encapsulate the outer end of the A arm, a weak point. Larger bearings and spindle are a plus also. I'm not thrilled with the much larger diameter drive shafts, seems like too much mass and size for that location. Another negative, the new shock towers may not be compatible with the use of sway bars. Thank you for the video and sharing your thoughts on this new offering.

It is a great kit, Traxxas models are tough right out of the box, anyone can say what they want I have almost all Traxxas models and bash them all and they are very durable, things do break doesn't matter if it's Traxxas or Tekno, parts will break...most all hobby grade models are very good, it just depends on if you can get parts for some brands, where I'm at Traxxas and Arrma parts are very that is a reason I really like Traxxas...

Have you used this kit? (Sorry if you said this and I missed it) You should get one and give it a beating! I think you would change your opinion, especially about the driveshafts, that are basically shortened Maxx shafts. 👍 Aside from the durability of the shock towers, the design is changed to allow clearance of the larger diameter shafts.

The hoss ( as I have one) is much more different than the rustler, it has the 540xl motor, no slipper clutch for a lot of tourque, and a little fan on the esc.

Hi I just purchased a traxxas hoss should I buy the tekno kit or the traxxas 9052x and 9051x cvds

If the oldish cvd run a 5mm bearing and the new is 6 do they have a new bearing for that ?

i had these tekno m6 driveshafts and i really dont like them on my rustler 4X4. 1 driveshaft bent from a little jump and the other one split in half... I also always break the wheel carriers and i break the pin inside of the driveshaft. Also, since i installed these driveshafts my wheels were standing in some weird way, it is litterally slowing my car down... I dont know how it is for the stampede and the slash, but i do know that ill never buy these again for my rustler.
