Hey folks :)

Welcome back to what's for tea? If you're new...welcome to you also!

Tonight for tea I made this delicious Scouse! :) Adapted from a recipe that my friend actually from Liverpool gave me! The original recipe was to be made on the stove top, but I have tweaked it slightly to be more slow cooker friendly :) This is the first time I’ve made this and it was incredibly tasty! It reminds me of Scottish stovies! I’ve listed everything I used down below.

Thanks for watching!

Enough for 4-5 people

500g (1lb) Diced lamb shoulder (or diced beef)
Half a small turnip or swede, diced
500ml Lamb (or beef stock if you’re using diced beef)
1.5lb Potatoes (chopped into chunks)
200ml Beer or bitter
3 Medium carrots chopped
500g (1lb) Minced lamb
300g Plain flour
1 Large onion, chopped
1 teaspoon Salt, pepper and dried parsley
A splash of Henderson’s relish (or Worcestershire sauce)
A few tablespoons olive oil for frying

***To keep it traditional, Serve with pickled red cabbage & buttered crusty bread***
***Would be lovely with mashed potato though! :)***

Hiya 😊 Just thought I’d add...for the folks who have messaged me privately to ask if I was wearing pants around the 3 minute mark 😂 It was Morning and I was wearing a night shirt 😁 and yes, I was aware that you could see my reflection. I noticed that when I was editing ( I normally would have removed it) but just left it in 😊👍

Down the road in Manchester we call it Tatta Hash....lots of variations on this recipe. My Mum used to do it with a couple of tins of corned beef. I use one tin of corned beef and around 500 gms of stewing steak. Carrots, leek, onions, celery, spuds and beef stock. Never made it in the slow cooker but trying it today. Brown sauce, pickled red cabbage, loads of bread and butter. Heaven on a plate!

Love using my slow cooker, especially when I’m so busy with my kids sports. Dinner is ready when we get home. Makes the house smell so good!

Hello from California. Love your channel. I’m originally from Liverpool and we ate scouse a lot growing up. Love it. My mum used to make Lancashire Hot Pot too. Do you have a recipe for it? I’d love to see you make it. Thank you!

Not big lamb lovers in our house so I would use beef. Comfort food for sure. Thumbs up as always! xx

Great home cooking thanks . Let's keep these traditions . We live off food like this apart from the odd takeaway and attempt at curries . My best is a whole slow cooked skinned chicken with veg in the slow cooker . Real food rules X

Hi Cheryl, I just fell on your vlogs by accident yesterday but absolutely love your recipes as they remind me of my mothers cooking when we were bairns. My parents moved from The Isle of Mull to Liverpool and we were brought up on all of these foods like stovies etc. When my mother made her version of scouse it was always on a Monday and she would use the remains of the leg of lamb from The Sunday roast, the marrow from the bone thickened the gravy and added to the flavour of the dish. Red cabbage was always served with Lancashire hot pot as well in our house. Miss living up north and having freshly caught brown river trout for breakfast along with our own vegetable garden. Keep up the good work.

It's that time of the year, when we pull out the crockpot & give it a workout (don't generally during the warmer weather). We'll add this to this list!

Love your mini travelogues at the end. Please give Jasper lots of lovin' for me too, and take some yourself. I made your stovies for the first time yesterday. Now to add BEER?? That'll warm our cockles. Need to get me a plaid soup bowl though. Happy upcoming Winter Solstice to everyone. Enjoy the light!!

It is very popular with pickled beetroot. ( sliced or whole) In L’pool. Haven’t got a slow cooker but we turn the gas down as low as it’ll go.
