I pay for TSA pre-check, keep shoes and belts on. Never had to be patted down. It's worth the $ 85 for 4-5 years as I only travel 10-12 times a year.

Thank you for talking about "strong" fragrances. There are too many people with asthma and/or allergy that have to suffer because someone doused themselves in perfume or cologne. It just isn't being thoughtful and frankly most people find it offensive!

The airlines should issue orange jump suits to passengers. Shackles would be good too. This way no one can cause trouble.

All the "extra" things I wear: I put all those items in my packable backpack when going thru security, and then put everything back on after that. Then I use that backpack as my day pack throughout vacation

Thank you for talking about scents! I have migraines caused by some perfume and if I would end up sitting next to someone with one of those I would just cry most of the flight :/ I have same problems with public transport (happens a lot, I changed busses many times to avoid staying with some people) and places like cinema or theater (luckily only has happened only once in cinema, but t was awful).

Also: in Europe we don't have to take shoes off as long as they are lower than your ankle (so your hiking boots should be ok, but your partner not) or don't have really thick sole (platform shoes; big, chunky heels)

I have a ritual before I enter PreCheck: hat off; goes into my backpack and I put all my removable items (phone, wallet, watch, passport, belt if necessary) into it. That way, they don't get scattered in my backpack. Quick self-pat down from top to bottom to find anything else I've missed. The only thing I hold onto is my ID and once I'm past the security check in, that goes into the hat as well. When I'm through I pull everything out of the hat and go on my way.

I wear two pairs of socks until I get through TSA. The outer pair are always beat up, stretched out and ready for the trash. After I get through TSA, they go to their final destination. I've seen people wear disposable painter's booties and I've been tempted to use them as well. It's been years but I remember being in line for security at an airport that had displays at various points along the line that offered painters boots for the travelers to take, use and toss. It was a great idea but all the displays were empty. I'm sure the promo was quickly ended because Americans can't just take "one, " we have to take a lifetime supply we'll never use because it's "free."

Years ago, I used electric rollers to curl my hair and put the unit in my checked suitcase. Every single time I flew, TSA would break the lock off my suitcase (this was before TSA locks were created). I suppose it either looked "weird" on the x-ray to the male agent or it must resemble a bomb.

I have a small silver cross that I always wear. Every time I forget to forget to remove it, it WILL set off the walk through x-ray and I have to be wanded.

On one trip, I made myself a sandwich for the flight. I couldn't find Ziploc bags to put it in, so I just used foil. Yeah, I wasn't thinking things through, lol. My sandwich got flagged because the x-ray machine couldn't determine what was in the foil. I had to go to a secure area so a TSA employee could go through my lunch and open the foil to see that I was, indeed, carrying a turkey sandwich. I still pack meals, but I no longer use foil.

Thank you for recommending people tone down their fragrances. Strong fragrances instantly inflame my sinuses, so it is difficult to inhale, my nose runs and I sneeze uncontrollably. I just don't understand why people must use scented body wash/soap, scented body creme, perfume/cologne/after shave and then wear clothes that are washed with "fragrance boosters" and scented dryer sheets, all at the same time. Ugh. I carry Benadryl and use it when I must.

In more paranoid times, I was pulled out of line after a millimeter wave scanner detected something mysterious in my back pocket. It was a used Kleenex I forgot to toss in the trash.

All good tips we need to remind ourselves when traveling. Thank you for the scents reminder. The older I get the more sensitive I get to smell. I actually get migraines that are triggered by smell.

KISS = Keep It Simple System or Keep It Simple Stupid.

Depending on weight of carryon, I'll wear a light or waterproof jacket and an outdoor vest, provides a lot of pockets for small items which I'll put into luggage after after weighing.

I also bring a ziplock bag to put all my pants' pocket stuff in and then put in luggage, make it easier to find it after security and not put, nor visible in the bin. Always wear pants with a belt and tied shoes. Now have pre-check.

I recently got my backpack searched when I brought a roll of quarters through the TSA checkpoint. For my next trip, I’m bringing loose quarters in a coin purse packed in my checked luggage.

Take a drink every time he says "being that".
Alcohol poisoning for sure.

Years ago my husband got pulled up at Changi Airport by security because of a lot of oval shaped things in his case. He didnt know what they were until his bag was opened to show a fishing throw net. Turns out the oval things were the lead weights on the net.

I use a shaving brush and soap rather than aerosol shaving cream. I pack both plus a razor in a plastic bag, so it’s obvious what they are. Before I did that, a TSA person who didn’t know what shaving soap was pulled my bag for additional screening.

And make sure that nothing blocks your stuff, like in my hubby's case, he had a book and the TSA had to remove it to see, what's in his bagpack!

Sandals are not appropriate or safe footwear while flying. If you have to take your shoes off for security you will be walking with bare feet during the process. Also, if there is any type of emergency either at the airport or on the flight and you have to run your sandals will come off and you could be running through any number of things with bare feet. ( Fire, broken glass, toxic substances, etc)

Removing a light jacket, a hoodie or a suit jacked it silly, Why in hell do they have the"xray" machines for? They see thru clothing and identify unallowed items.
