After nearly forty years of marriage, JOAN and JOE CASTLEMAN (Glenn Close and Jonathan Pryce) are complements. Where Joe is casual, Joan is elegant. Where Joe is vain, Joan is self-effacing. And where Joe enjoys his very public role as Great American Novelist, Joan pours her considerable intellect, grace, charm, and diplomacy into the private role of Great Man’s Wife.

Joe is about to be awarded the Nobel Prize for his acclaimed and prolific body of work. Joe’s literary star has blazed since he and Joan first met in the late 1950’s. THE WIFE interweaves the story of the couple’s youthful passion and ambition with a portrait of a marriage, thirty-plus years later—a lifetime’s shared compromises, secrets, betrayals, and mutual love.

A woman that suppresses her talents because of a man and tolerates his infidelity is not "the wife". She is actually acting like a mother because mother's love is unconditional. A woman should never treat her husband (or boyfriend) like he's her child. Remember ladies, you deserve a man that will respect you for what you are and help you achieve your goals and dreams ;)

Her younger self is actually played by her daughter, wow. I thought they looked alike a lot.

Congratulations Glenn Close for winning the 2019 Golden Globe for Best Actress for Motion Picture Drama!

What made her performance super was her measured restraint. She meted out precisely the microfacial movements that only veteran actors can pull off convincingly. She emoted tolerance and curiosity and rage to the degree that wives in a subordinate role can understand. Brilliant acting! 💓

I want to say something really important for me. If Glenn wins that Oscar this year it will be a real victory for the history of cinema. Cinema is not only for young people! Older people can be also sexy and carry a show! This is her best performance in my opinion and after six losses it would be criminal if she does not win. Please members of the academy give Glenn that Oscar!!! Help also young people to love great actors no matter what age! #OscarforGlennClose2019

I was so drawn in to this film. I saw it because everyone said her performance was exceptional, which is was- but the story and its twist blew my mind. A masterpiece in every way.
